DSTV have a problem they have too many people earning multi-million salaries. They are listed in the Stock Exchange.
Those on the Gravy Train, don't want to take a cut. The worst animal on earth, the share holder wants very good returns on their investment.
That puts their "balls" in a big vice.
So they where selling there Premium package, with 5 connections, 4 of which could be used for streaming.
So they decided that they did not mind binning 60% of their Prime Advertising viewers, and diluted their Premium package by 60% and still charged their Premium price.
Premium advertising viewers are the most valued by advertisers for obvious reasons. They the people who can buy more, of the advertised product.
The advertisers are not as stupid as DSTV hoped, so a big chunk of their advertising revenue disappeared.
People did not line up in droves to buy their Premium service like they expected.
Now they need to keep those edgy Share Holders happy, remember.
So we will make sharing possible again, but hey, hang on. We can buy a cheap box for R150.00 in China, load our own ROM on it, pushes the cost up to around R200.00. We sell it to the Plebs for R1400.00. We rake in the green stuff, our multi-million Rand salaries are safe, we get our Prime Advertisers revenue up, and we make money on all sides. The nasty share holders are happy - nice dream.
