DStv's one device streaming limit kicks in

The free ones also have DSTV
The games I watch usually comes from a Sky Sports feed etc.
streams which is really nice but once again the reason why we have the limits imposed but yes it seems that pirating might actually end up being the only affordable option which is sad.
That's what they say but it's just the ineptitude of DStv.

Dreaded? By whom? Their advertisers?

Anyone not voting with their wallet really has no legitimate reason to complain.
I wonder how many legit complainers there are over us leeches who were dependent on shared creds. This move is draconian, they should have tried to find a way to let legit subscribers watch over multiple streams in a household. Sure, it would be a bit complex, but they need to not go for the easiest most inconvenient solution.

Don't be sad Cavedog.. it's MC, **** them. Pirate me matey, it's the right thing to do.

A little confused here. I have two separate TV's in separate rooms. Both of them use MiBox4. Having no problem running them together (at the moment -Wed 23rd @ 1100). I have shared the Password for years with two of my kids who live about 50kays away.. To date no screams of horror from them. Is this not allowing shared passwords a selective thing?

I have nobody using my streaming - but uselessnochoice thinks I do, so I can't stream on my work pc. It says "Streaming Limit Reached". Really what levels of incompetence do we have to put up with before we say no more?

Interesting. I have 2 smart TV'S in different room and now only stream on one or the other.. Maybe you're fortunate and the version of the Dstv application is different. Maybe the tech boffins will know..

You thought you had nobody using your login credentials.

How do you think were people able to buy streaming devices off of Facebook, preloaded with DSTV Premium?

On the check Manage Devices and see which ones are linked. If you didn't register the Device, remove them and try again.. might work..

Does this service use your connection to stream back to others?

I've noticed my traffic looks like this:

Vs this for DSTV streaming:

Note the higher upload for vip stream (crickstream link).

I don't mind, am just interested in how this works...

All the above being excused with password sharing and piracy. Silly business.

Purely anecdotal, but a friend of mine said him and four of his friends were sharing one account so they could watch sport. These are all middle to upper class people. If I run DSTV's streaming service I would definitely see this as a problem.

Then DStv could limit the account sharing to 'household' use only, limit it to a IP. The problem being that some internet users don't have dedicated IPs, but the DStv dashboard should allow you to update your IP to your current IP in use. That would solve the piracy issue.

In the case where a shared IP is used, then at least one registered device on your account should be able to stream on that IP.

I am being basic here.

I am still puzzled by this,

as they took an executive decision to reduce the viewing experience, degrading the service agreement, their current subscribers were signed up to. To think that such a decision has been made in a boardroom to devalue the user experience is unapologetically anti-consumerism, and I am without doubt that they are already exploring options to monetise the problem they have created within their service ecosystem.

Besides, reading their snipped response it could also be interpreted that they couldn't provide a multi-user experience and hence had to limit concurrent streaming which is pointing to the service being overpromised.

If they were clever they would have done this in conjunction with a price drop.... I don't mind paying for the sport or TV service. Just make it realistic.
Also don't make it complicated where I can only get some stuff. They know we want this.

The other thing - its actually the main thing reading the comments here... most people complaining are people doing multiple streams within a single household ie multiple devices on the same network.
This is actually allowed by other providers like Netflix and its not actually the problem - the problem they are trying to resolve is that of MANY households sharing a single login.
So then the change they should have made should have been to restrict multiple streams to a single IP at a time. Perhaps 2 to be safe

This would have then been a non issue for many.

Ditto.

I think its simple enough to just allow two IP's and then if another IP uses the account the oldest one falls off the list of allowed.

Well then perhaps they are allowing multiple streams per IP. Perhaps their implementation is not smart enough to pick up that its multiple clients if they are all using the same IP ?

Perhaps they also realised that if you switch channels then its going to look like multiple clients on their side... so they would have had to allow for this.

For convenience, it would be best. Most users expect their user experience to be without 'administration'.

I tested from the same IP. No joy.
