Dual core and core 2 dual??

Hi...

Just like the title... the question is... which one is better... and why?

if i buy i laptop, which one should i use? (will be better... )

Core 2 Duo IS a dual core cpu, no two ways about it. However, "core 2 duo" is an architecture that Intel used for it's 2nd generation dual core processors.

"Dual core" is simply a term used to describe the number of physical processor cores on a single processor.

If memory serves, dual core or pentium dual is two physical cores with independant internal cache per core. Core 2 Duo is two cores with a shared internal cache, hence the slightly faster performance. Just the internal layout really, and price :P
 
Core 2 is a revised version of Core which is a revised version of the old P6 architecture last used on the P3/P2 era. No doubt Core 2 is the better way to go.

However, if you want the most bang for your buck get the worlds first quad core that sells for R1k : the AMD Athlon II X4
 
They're both the same architechture, the pentium dual cores just have cache and some features disabled.

Intel disabled VT on most pentium dual cores, which means you can't run XP mode in Windows 7 if that's important to you.
 
watch out for Core Duo on laptops. This is not a Core 2 Duo.

it is dual core but not 64-bit

Dual core is a generic name for processors with two cores. Like a motorcycle is a generic name for a vehicle with two wheels. Core 2 duo is a specific architecture like the R1
 
Trust Intel to come up with such a stupid naming scheme.... it confuses the heck out of everybody.
 
Well there is the intel name for something and then there is the real name for something, example : EMT64 is what intel calls its x64 extension, the real name for it is the iAMD extension :p
