Dual SIM phones in SA

A number of South Africans have SIM cards from more than one cellular network, but swopping SIM cards or using two phones isn’t always practical
 
Well doesn't dual sim mean that the phone has to suck 2x more power for reception from the battery?
Whats practical, multiple sims on one phone or multiple phones with one sim each?
 
This is like legalizing polygamy...(hehe).

I am one of those 16% that has 2 phones and 2 SIMS; would be great to have to carry one phone with 2 SIMS. But those phone suck big time wrt form factor.
 
There is an obvious market for dual sim phones. Lots of people have a work phone and a private phone, or a private phone and a "Call out" phone.

Much more convienient to move the sims to one phone.

At the moment my wife has the neighbourhood call-out phone, and is endlessly complaining about having two phones in her handbag.
 
Isn't the real reason for having dual SIMs in a single phone the ability to split your data from your voice calls ?
 
Well there are certainly more reasons than vodacom think there are.

There exists a marketing oportunity to those that are unaware that dual (and quad) sim phones are available.
 
Ive always liked the idea of a dual SIM phone so i could get a 8-ta SIM and put it along side mine, the 8-ta gives free calls to 1 Telkom number, so i could call my Asterisk box in the office and SIP out over the DSL. Now that is VoIP with a difference, no 3g charges or coverage issues but im sure Telkom will have something to say about this.

My second sim would be used in an uber-dumb phone only for areas where I don't get coverage from my primary network, and will most likely be switched off for most of the time.
 
Anyone know prices of any of the AG units? Googling the AG Link brings up sites selling bull semen...
The AG Bullet lists SABC 1,2,3 in its specs; not exactly pulse raising but may be useful for catching up with the cricket or something on occasion.

The DUO in Samsung Galaxy S2 Duo refers to the ability of the phone to operate on both GSM and CDMA networks. It is a dual mode phone There are currently no SIM-based CDMA networks in RSA (so Neotel is excluded), and so this phone isn't any more useful than a regular Galaxy S2. Also, its not clear whether you can run GSM and CDMA simultaneously, or have to choose only one at a time.

Not prices for the AG units but I saw the Mobicell phones at Game. They are between R499 to R799, look almost like the Blackberry.
 
Please, please, please...can this topic be revisited? What are the latest and greatest with regards to Dual SIM phones? What are the best models available? Thanks.
