I live on the Berea in Durban and have had very limited internet access since Thrusday night. Email and Skype are fine, Internet is almost non existent - Telkom says my line is fine, my ISP says they are 100% functional.

I've spoken to others in Durban from various ISP's and they have the same problem. When I connect with 3G it is fine.

Any comments, suggestions?

Virus or trojan? Maybe your firewall is acting up?

same problem for me too and i live in the same area...gmail doesn't work properly so i have to use the very old version. yahoo gives me an XML error all the time, getting really angry here. my isp said telkom has resolved the issue but they've received alot of calls from clients who say the net is still not working.

Yep my internet has been timing out quite often for the past few days. Any ideas on when they're gonna fix it. Man I can't wait till we get something better

I wonder if it has something to do with the dozens of Telscum vans working on boxes all over the place ........ probably.

Glad it's not just me. Reported it on Friday to Telkom. Got an sms today saying problem is being attended to. My business depends on the Internet so its a big hassle - investigating 3G bundle for my mobile tomorrow for times like this.

It's not just you. My ADSL has gone pear shaped again since Thurs/Fri.... I've resorted to using my I.S account which is fine, so it's not the actual DSL line, it's the Telkom Backbone in our area. Telkom need to sort this out.

I live in Morningside a stone throw away from the new Stadium. The only for me to browse properly on my line is too use the Telkom proxy CACHE.SAIX.NET Port 3128, which is a workaround to fix my browsing issues, but not my other devices like my PS3 and XBOX that reply on direct routing.

So - all the complainants posting on this thread are Durban-based - that figures - I wonder whether there isn't some wah we can mail these threads through to Telkom here in Durban for them to see that these are not one or two isolated cases.

Any bright ideas from you people more knowledgeable than myself?

um ya i been wondering why its been taking foreverrrrrrrrrr for pages to load but i just havent bothered to call and ask

Amazing - went to see Telkom at the Pavillion and they looked baffled - they haven't had any reports of any problems from anyone. I logged another one and I'm going to use my number to claim back for the four days that I didn't have connectivity - I don't think I'll get away with claiming for loss of income and mental cruelty though.

Got home - ADSL working!

Une miracolo!!!! Suddenly my ADSL is also "wekking" again! Perhaps somebody eventually decided to take notice of all our complaints and told those techies in blunt terms: "SORT IT OUT!!!"

Mind you, knowing how some people's minds work, I'm definitely NOT holding my breath that it's going to last - I'll wait and see whether this is just another flash in the pan, or something a little more substantial...

Between 7 and 7.30 this morning my ADSL Died. I'm now using my 3G. I think we must get paintball guns (they're legal) and storm the offices. :-) I sent in another complaint. I'll phone one in too. Maybe if we all keep complaining they'll do something - though I doubt it.

i have had the same problem, on the north coast, Empangeni and Richards Bay area`s.
local seems fine, but international is not to good, i get time outs, some times takes 2 or 3 min to display one page.

and i have had the problem with SAIX and IS. but i must say its not getting better, local is starting to get slow as well

UPGRADES

Those poor TECHIES are just doing what they have been told to do -- UPGRADE

See my other thread about Local Loop cable upgrade as well as new inter-exchange FIBRE trunking.

TELKOM may well suprise everyone -- think I am DEFINITELY going to go out and buy some more TELKOM SHARES !

Do yourself a favour every time you see one of those WHITE vans -- go and chat to them -- IF your line is working and you are feeling in a good mood take them a coke or something. :D

I'm sure it has something to do with Mike Sutcliffe.

I second that.

Technically they cannot really accept the coke, if they do they have to declare it in writing as it is considered a gift. This however does not seem to apply to the upper echelons of management though.

Wtf, just drop it on the guys lap and carry on walking :D
