Hi i've been thinking of buying myself a dvd recorder, would i be able to transfer the recordings from the hdd to a pc?What is the guys using for the stuff (tv episodes of prison break etc.) that are avaible on the internet, because the quality is very good for tv recordings.

I had an LG recorder and couldn't transfer the recordings, unless you burn it to DVD format.
Even took out the harddrive and plugged that into my PC, but the file system was not recognised. I have now built an HTPC with a good capture card ... perfect !

Some of the recorders have firewire. Has anybody tried hooking up a direct link between the pc and the machine?

If you write it to RW-DVD it can be transfered. These devices have (for some reason) very slow USB ports, so USB flash drives will just irritate the crap out of you.

A TV tuner card for your computer might give you the joy you need.

Same problem - I was highly annoyed.
And it writes to DVD at 1 speed....

Very infuriating.
