DVD writeer Brands

Hmm. I have had this once or twice:o

What is the best way to get the info off a disk that gives this error? Generic/other drive? Software that'll read disk multiple times to get info? Or am I stuffed?

Is it the LG drive itself that causes this, or is it burning too fast? Or what? I have lots of stuff stored on DVD that I will need to access later- if I can't I'll cry:(

Agreed the LGs can be loud- next drive I'll look for a gentle swoosh:)

I have no idea, but I think it's a problem specifically with LG drives. You could try Unstoppable Copier, but I don't know how effective it would be, as it will still depend on the DVD-Writer you're using. I've had issues with these LG drives many times before, so I generally avoid them.

Ok, guys I spoke to the Intellistor people.

They no longer do the Plextor drives as there is no longer any andvantage in buying Plextor. Plextor no longer does their own R&D and everything gets outsourced to one or two big manufacturers.

These days the only people that still do their own R&D are Pioneer & TEAC. This is besides the two mass manufacturers that supply anybody from benq to sony.

The TEAC drives are very expensive so they don't sell them. They do however sell the Pioneer drives which they also use in the cd duplicators they sell and highly recommend them.

The two Pioneer models they stock are:
DVR-216 (SATA)
DVR-116 (PATA)

Hi,

I'm also looking for a new DVD writer - I have an LG (about 4 years old)... it always writes fine, but regularly doesn't want to read DVD videos (but if I try about 10 times, it will work... eject, wait, eject, wait...)

Not sure if I should buy a pioneer?

Regards,
Greg

BenQ or Samsung WriteMasters. I have two Samsung WriteMaster drives for years now and it's still running strong.
