Whilst I am indifferent to the sinking of MNet's Open Time [which has IMO been crappy for the last 2 years], I have to wonder if eTV is wise to rub MNet's nose in it...

And by "focus on blockbuster movies", is eTV referring to the movies that only eTV staff get to watch? - bcos the public hardly ever get to watch real blockbusters on eTV - unless it's the movies that are relatively ancient that eTV regular screens...
 
I find it interesting that e.tv see their target market as the black middle class.

That's ok thou, I dont watch TV anymore, would rather pay to get movies and TV programs from the States.
 
It's good to know that e-tv' target audience is middle class black viewers, no I don't feel so bad about never watching it.
The fact is that MNet has got the top end of the market sewn up and with our friends at the DOC handing them an effective monopoly in the PAY-TV space for another year or more, I can't see how they would be too sad about losing open time.
 
I can't remember the last time I watched anything on Etv or SABC, don't even watch much DSTV anymore. Much better to just get what you want and then you can watch it whenever.
 
Interesting how ICASA managed to act on this issue but never does ANYTHING about Telkom! Maybe Multichoice should have just ignored them the way Telkom does and then when ICASA tries to act, acuse ICASA of descrimination.... that would be probably enough to cause ICASA to go off wimpering with it's tail between it's legs......:mad:
 
I'm sorry but I really don't think Mnet has anything to worry about with regards to e.tv. E.tv has such crap content that my TV never stays on that channel for longer than a few seconds. While Mnet is producing hits like survivor, Project Fame and Idols - E.tv has um Backstage and oh yes Fear Factor, what a load of ****!!

I will never watch SABC or E.

Only news on 2 and Some sport on SABC 3... thats it :D
 
MNET open time used to be good. Egoli for the soapie fans, then a good international comedy at 6:30. Then they went for 2 local series so they lost me as a viewer. The reason people watched MNET and not eTV or SABC was because their offerings from 5-7 weren't utter ****e. If you get your revenue from advertising, then offer something decent and you won't need to cry to mommy for ICASA to ban open time. What a bunch of whining babies.

Strikethrough is generally used to signify an edit - 'lousy' was more of a personal opinion.

Good point.
Perhaps now with ICASA implementing what is reckons is competition in the TV viewing market, they can shift their focus to Telkom?

P.S: I fork out R440 for DStv - so would all you other pansies of you had it for a month or so. As much as it may suck to pay R440 for 100 channels of "crap", it's far better then not having DStv in a place where you are only stuck with SABC's and e-TV's "premier" content.
