Tell me about it. Since "Upgrading" from the prerelease to RC1 I experience wake up issues after PC "sleeps". Now I will have to reinstall anyway. Fine, No sweat, All worth it IMHO.

Nothing about Windows is easy. It was put on this earth to prepare you in case you end up in hell!

I installed RC thinking it would not be possible to upgrade. Am therefore prepared to re-intsall. If I can get around that, great. If not? Whatever.

Early adopter? Yes, as soon as Pirate Edition hits the torrentsphere:cool:

Who wants to upgrade from RC to release anyway, I want a CLEAN install.

IMO a lot of things about Windows are easy. That is a part of the reason that it is so dominant today. I agree though that I have found Vista is a fair bit harder to use than XP. I actually find Linux easier to use these days than any Windows, but that is probably just because I spend more time on Linux and I have limited Vista exposure.

As far as I can see the main thing Windows has over every other OS is that it is dominant and this unfortunately creates a self-sustaining system because the more dominant it is the less time developers spend coding for other OSes because it doesn't make economic sense to spend large amounts of time coding for an OS used by less than 10% of the computers in the world, thus cementing the dominance of Windows. Although it does ensure that Windows has amazing driver support etc., which is great for the user.

Hopefully with entities like Google getting involved with a Linux distro awareness will spread, IMO this would be good for the OS market because competition is always healthy, but I doubt it will happen overnight.

While Windows7 looks awesome, I don't think I'll be able to justify the price of it and so, for now anyway, I will stick with XP for the few outdated games I still bother to play, and I'll use Linux for everything else.

It doesn't sound right that you would need to re-install an older version to install Windoze 7. Surely all you have to do is insert the XP/Vista disk at some point during the instal of the upgrade?

This statement makes no sense whatsoever. Windows is the most dominant only due to the fact that it had the lead in the market. You obviously have never used OS X and thus cannot make statements like this. OS X is by far more superior to Windows in logical ease of use and security. You cannot tell me Apple spends less time perfecting OS X just because it has a smaller market share. It is only because it came later than Windows.

Take note as well that a lot of what you are now seeing coming through in Windows has already been developed in OS X.

I stopped upgrading from previous releases around the time of Windows 95. Clean install FTW!!! :D In fact, I do a clean install every six months or so just for the HOI! ;)

Think you missed his point...

3rd Party software. Can you play games on your X?

At some point, a few years ago, the only thing that was required was to rename win.com, boot from the CD and install.
