Easy Equities good or bad?

Naah I think you have an interest. It's ok. Just be honest about it.

yes most of us do:whistle:. they gave away R50 of EE (purple group) shares last year :P

but yes - you will have fractional shares, as the EE platform is Rand amounts only. to buy specific, non-fractional shares takes lots of calculations, but it is possible.

Too my knowledge EE will, worst case scenario, only sit with a fraction of each share on the JSE provided that a part of each share on the JSE has been bought through their platform. Basically a CFD with 1:1 gearing/ratio/whatever.

If I buy 50% of NPN, and you buy 50% of NPN, EE will hold no fraction of NPN themselves. If I own 50% of MPN and you 40%, them they'll hold 10%.

Sorry my lying in bed math was bad, I meant EE sitting with R100 loss and you with the other half of the total R200 loss.

sitting in the same boat. sold my R50 and took it somewhere else. in the mean time- it would have gained 28% :/

such is life

Still have mine. Not worth the effort to sell it. It has more value serving as a reminder...a warning even. :D

I didn't get any, late to the party I guess.

So what is the reminder/ warning?

That when you are given R50 to buy Purple shares, buy R50's worth of DBXWD instead.

It was a useless buy, but free money so no real loss. Probably some sort of business strategy to get public buy in or something. They did it for Halloween last year.

Funny you guys mention the R50 Purple shares, I remember getting them but they aren't in my account I see.

****

Oh I see I just got the R50 in lieu of the shares, not the actual shares.

Sold my R50 purple shares as soon as it was more worth than the shares + fees and bought something else.

Today I made a killing on the stock exchange, I shot my broker.

How long do you guys hold on share on EE? short term (days, weeks) or you holding them for long term(months going to years)?

Except for some Aspen shares that went very far south, I haven't sold a single share I've bought.

I have a few questions.

- Is my name on the share register of the company when I invest?
- Will I receive the Annual Financial Statements that the company usually sends each shareholder after year end?

i have received financial statements for a few of my holdings already. most recent for NPN / Naspers.

cant believe they waste the paper to send every shareholder a copy :o

Months to years, unless EE folds :o

Hi Guys,
Equity investing is long term so you shouldn't sell out earlier than three years. Also don't deviate from your reasoning on buying those shares! Its easy to panic but remember long term!
Also as mentioned in an earlier thread, your whole shares are held in your name and free cash in a separate nominee account so if anything happens to EE your money is 100% safe.
Hope this helps!

Hi Guys,

Clarifying here:

All full shares are held in your name - you can check this out by asking computershare to check the share register.
Fractional shares - we issue you with a CFD contract. When you eventually add to the fraction and you then own a full share, the share is then transferred to your name and placed on the share register.

Hope this clarifies?

Thanks
