Easy Equities good or bad?

Ridiculous how their platform is barely functional now. Takes ages to log me in, sometimes just kicks me out after loading for ages. Takes ages to load data. Bordering on ridiculous now.

I missed why it is so slow. I assume lots of people due to the volatility on the market?

Whatever it is, it cannot even load my holdings data. Been trying since the previous post, still no joy.

Same. Been using the platform for my TFSA for three years now. First time I've ever encountered such slowness.

I did get an email earlier saying the Demo accounts have been paused in an attempt to speed up the site.

Are you sure it's not your ISP's causing problems, much like yesterday with the Google "outage"?

My account loads perfectly fine on Telkom.

Oh I see it gets stuck on "View Holdings".

I cant even see my account via the EE app .... waited 2 hours and gave up. Via my pc it is more useful (meaning it works)

Was getting stuck on pretty much everything at the time. I think it may have been exacerbated by ISP problems as well.

Tweeted them, EE replied within two minutes:

We are dealing with unprecedented increases in volume & at the same time supporting infrastructure from partners is under huge pressure too. Our team is currently working to resolve as quickly as possible

They are suing for forgiveness.

Dear fellow EasyEquities user,

During the Covid19 crisis, I hope that you and your loved ones are safe. I have no doubt that, together, we will emerge from our national lockdown as resilient as ever, ready to face the many challenges and opportunities that life throws at us.

These are the most uncertain of times and the only thing that I know for certain right now is that you cannot predict exponential growth.

EasyEquities is built to support 100% growth year on year. Many business owners will agree that’s a fair amount of growth and some would bet against us achieving it. In fact, various accountants and financial analysts we have recently engaged with, discounted our growth forecast by 30%-40%, saying we’re too optimistic. Well, here we are in April and we are dealing with four times the average volume in new users joining the EasyEquities community and trading volumes are also significantly higher than they were just last month – which in itself was a record month with all the market volatility and opportunities.

To put that into context - we have to do in one week what just over a month ago we had a full month to do. That reality doesn’t afford me or the EasyEquities team of 80 passionate individuals any excuses. This is everything we hoped for when we set out to offer a platform for all to reach their financial dreams. Our planning has fallen short and we are doing absolutely everything in our power to not only get through this period but to exceed every expectation you – and we – have of ourselves.

From day one, EasyEquities has prided itself on transparency, so I’d like to give you as much information as I have on how we are improving the capacity of our platform:

Our progress thus far:

  • Scaled up our web infrastructure; added additional processing power to the current web servers
  • Implemented Retrace (a performance management tool) to identify any activity on the platform that may have a negative impact on performance.
  • Split Web and App traffic across two web servers
  • Reduced page load in areas of the platform to optimise load speeds
  • Turned off demo accounts to prioritise all infrastructure to real trading service only
  • Directed all development resources to resolving scale issues coming out of our monitoring systems
In addition, the following work is urgently in progress:

  • Adding additional webservers to further split traffic and lighten load.
Go live expected to be midnight 7th April 2020
  • Improving our capability to dynamically route traffic between our web servers, and gaining the ability to scale horizontally as demand increases. Go live is expected to be by midnight 10th April 2020
How can you assist?

  1. Only log in over peak periods if you need to invest. These times are:
    • 9am to 10.30am
    • 3.30pm to 4.30pm
  2. When you login to check on your investment, try and be brief
  3. Download our latest apps from your app store and use these instead of the website
Beyond these measures, we are in constant contact with experts who are assisting us to scale more, quicker. Our incredible team, all also EasyEquities users, are working remotely and are doing everything they can to improve performance. Again your patience with them is greatly appreciated.

I want to think you all very much for your incredible support. I promise that we will repay you in the months and years ahead with products and services that exceed all expectations and make investing even easier for all.

There is no doubt that we will rise and deliver against all challenges, lifted by your incredible support and the fact that what we are co-creating in Easy is changing the fabric of our financial system forever.

I don't get you guys' obsession with Sasol. Why not look at Palladium, Rhodium, Gold, Oil etc. At least with those you understand why they could potentially shoot up and return huge gains.

Sasol's growth is dependent on people running a business and they need to do it in such a way that investors gain confidence in the company.

With precious metals and resources you know exactly where it's being used in the production of consumer goods and how the scarcity of some with no real alternatives make them valuable.
