Firmware update? SMC And PRAM reset?
Are the Firmware updates not automatically shown if you check for updates via the apple logo on the upper left side? When I do that I don't see any firmware updates available.

Tried an Smc reset a while back when I had Yosmite loaded and it didn't seem to help this issue, should I try it again? And a PRAM reset also needed?

Not free though (like previous solution was).. like +/- R280. Btw I don't see the point of paying for something i use almost completely for interoperability with others.. my own stuff is formatted differently so its an interoperability annoyance with flash disks of windows users :( kinda why it took me a while to notice it nolonger working

There are always alleys to get software for free. And they're not even that dark :)

Well now it's back to awesome, it could perhaps be the indexing, I noticed earlier in finder nothing was displayed under All My Files but the 5 files I had pasted on the desktop could be viewed by browsing to the desktop in finder. Now they are under All My Files so indexing couldn't have been complete earlier.

Suppose it would need to index all the iLife content at least which would be a good few files but taking as long as it has does seem a bit of a mystery.

How was El Capitan right after the install for those who did an install over an earlier OSX?

I've done a couple of installs now, some are fast, some not. Depends whats installed.
My workhorse laptop took forever to update, but my primary backup was fast.

Right after install, seems fine on all of mine, but I only have SSD based macs, with at least 8G ram and upward.

If its still slow, check console (its an app), and make sure no errors.

eg

Console, click All Messages, enter disk in search, look for disk errors.

Multiple desktops seem to be a little bit smoother.
The "amazing" new split desktop feature is still not as good as Better Touch Tool.
Mail and Calendar still use too much memory for their functionality.

So out of the blue my Mac just slowed down earlier. Opened spotlight, bloody Mac was indexing. FFS I just shut it down and issue sorted. My outdated version of uTorrent wasn't opening. Productivity levels were lower today.

Loaded pics off my camera, and when previewing in Quick Look, and zooming in, the pics become green.

Have submitted the fault via Feedback Assistant.

Just upgraded to 10.11

So far only issue I can see is Little Snitch broke. I may need to look for a newer version!

FileVault does eat your system a bit even with no data.

But normally only if you do it after installation.

No filevault not on as far as I can see, how do I confirm that?

Seems like the kernel_task very high cpu useage can be linked to any number of hardware problems as well. It's weird though because sometimes it runs like a dream for a while then kernel_task goes crazy and never comes down. No apps other than iLife installed. Very sad, killing me this, spent many hrs trying different things and goggling it but niks

One issue I encountered was that the About-Storage page was wrong and it bothered me.. Later I found that on my work machine it was correct but home machine the spotlight indexing hadn't been able to complete.

Guess that's what you get when u don't let it complete due lack of use haha. :-/ force restart indexing and the values start updating..

Same happened to my with uTorrent. Following advice from greg0205, I grabbed Transmission and haven't looked back. A great little prog and no other dodgy stuff trying to load unwanted rubbish all over the place. uTorrent has had it's day.

Damn. I really liked uTorrent. It's time for this relationship to come to an end. I'll download Transmission.

Anyone else having issues using Bootcamp and Windows 10?

It all seems to work fine until it restarts, it just boots straight back into OS X. I can see the partition it created but cannot boot to it.

I'm trying again now to see if it was maybe a once off issue.

EDIT: Second time lucky. Very weird.

I am a bit weary. I have owned 4 Macbook Pro's since OS Tiger. Every new OS release seemed to slow my computers down. I could only remedy it by buying a new faster MacBook. It was so predictable, that I started to wonder if Apple coded it to slow down machines older that 1 year...in order for owners to buy new hardware. It also happened with my iOS devices - all of my iPhones - iPhone, iPhone3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 slowed down to a crawl after a few iOS upgrades....until I jumped ship with phones and tablets to Android. I recently bought a new top of the line MBP 15", cost me R 35 000.00. It runs amazingly fast, and I would hate for it to slow down.
Perhaps I will try EC out on one of my Mac Mini's first for a few months to see what it's like.
