El Capitan OS X

How would I be able to do that?

Apologies - I've been in rural England these past few days with only limited internet access. As mentioned by Zyzzyva you'll find your installer in the Applications folder. If you use an application like DiskMaker X it will create a bootable installer thumb drive for you - http://diskmakerx.com

I'm missing the old three finger swipe to the right calendar widget (there was also weather and calculator etc.), where can I find that quick to access calendar now, or is it no more?

Do you mean the Dashboard? If so you can re-enable it in System Preferences > Mission Control. I prefer the Notification Center though

Much better option... Never really used Dashboard.

Thank you.

It's just the quickest way for me to see which date a day fell on.

Notification Centre is fantastic too.

Dashboard is the bastard of OS X. Apple hasn't given it love for the past 3-4 versions.

lol - I had to google dashboard just to remind me what it was… :p

How long does El Capitan take to install(after the DL is complete) from start to finish?

5hrs later and I'm still waiting, it was going so slow I took photos of the screen every so often to verify the install was in fact moving forward.

It's finally finished, wtf was up with that?

Now kernel_task runs at 95% cpu constantly, Nooooo. Now wishing this accursed operating system never crossed my path, how I long for an honestly screwed up OS like windows :(

In safe mode runs perfectly, this was an install over SL, perhaps erase and install EC from scratch?

I was also thinking perhaps the hdd, it's in a Macbook, why would that make the install slow or cpu useage go through the roof though. There's no other errors or kernel panics etc? Can utilities check the hdd?

I don't think DU can. You need a program to view the SMART of the drive. Though even SMART cannot be trusted always.

Which year is yours? The HDD cables can cause strange things.

Try a fresh install. The time delay could also have been due to upgrading from SL. As well as the CPU usage.

Most of the Macs I install takes a bit more than an hour, but CF (control freak) at the office went super paranoid and limited the WiFi hotspot speed, so everything goes at snail pace.

One thing I do now, is a total clean install.
Got myself a USB3 flash drive. And use the terminal to create the install media

Doubt it's the sata cable it works perfectly in safe mode, cpu drops to around 4%.

I'm going to try a fresh install
