Elden Ring

Or new players could figure things out for themselves and have a great experience on their own
They could indeed. Going in blind is great, but some may find it frustrating and want some guidance on the basic mechanics without spoiling anything. The video above does that well.

Choice is a great thing, isn't it?

Probably the only thing you might want to know is which stats are great in the beginning to level; but if you've played any ds esp ds III you should know that already. Otherwise, I'm still just ****ing around with my caster which is great btw.

If you've played a substantial amount of DS/BB there really is no reason to not go in blind. I think the additional/changed mechanics are explained well enough up front.

It's easy to forget how different/specific some of these mechanics are. Many have become so obvious to us over the course of the prior games, but are less so to the uninitiated.

Yeah, it is actually quite nice not doing a play though using a fighting cowboy play-guide. Not that his stuff isn't great, which it is, but just running into the unknown and dying is where it is at.

Seems like none of the 10/10 reviewers played the PC version. I'm watching streamers playing the PC version get random stutters lasting 1+ seconds vs certain enemies (eg. Cat mini-boss). Completely unplayable on PC. That is along with the random micro-stuttering in the open world.

eg. Watch these few minutes:

Sucks for PC players but I hope it gets fixed soon...and many reviewers played the PC version without issues. SkillUp was one.

I'm having an absolute blast on the PS5

Most players will be playing it on the PS4 and PC as there aren't as many PS5s out there.

After seeing these issues I'll hold off on purchasing it. Even if it happens in just a few areas, it would suck to play for 10 hours and then get to a boss I can't beat because of stuttering, thereby bricking the game.

Also there is no PC in the world that can play this without the constant stuttering as it is DX12 issue so hardware/settings etc. doesn't matter. So those reviewers who played this on PC and still gave it a 10/10 must have been paid for their ratings or they are just hyping it up because they are fanbois.

First main boss required to progress:

Depends who you are looking at. You can clearly see the dip(s) when fightingcoybow or oxhorn are playing.

They realsed a patch this morning which does help a little but I still get the dips from time to time. But it isn't the anti cheat, gaming mode, performance mode, ultra latency, prerendered frames, <insert 20 things to try in windows>, but actually the contious loading and not using loading screens.

I love the game!

Took down
the dragon
singlehandedly last night. The feeling of accomplishment afterwards is why I play these kind of games.

Never played a Souls game before....

This game's real name is RACLAB!

As a new player I HAVE to use a beginner guide - game was too frustrating without it and barely manageable with - you are so underpowered that it really isn't fun.

I love the exploring and finding little hidden sections but when you get squished by everything above a common soldier it takes some mental fortitude to keep going.

Game really makes you work hard and not necessarily in a good way - hardcore gamers might actually enjoy doing manual gear comparisons - I don't - it just feels like a chore tbh.

Not really getting all the raving either - gameplay not much different from what I remember Skyrim, Dragon Age or even The Witcher.

Not sure I'll have stamina to slog until I'm more powerful or whether the story is compelling enough to keep me motivated.

Yeah a Souls game is "different" in how it progresses. Took me a while to get into it but a fan now. I'd recommend refunding and trying Dark Souls 1 to get an idea on how the games normally progress OR Sekiro which actually might frustrate you more.

Refund and circle back if you enjoy the cheaper Soul entries

You want me to try something that is even more frustrating? No thanks - I'll keep grinding at this - once I figure out how not to get one shotted by some random grey imp that makes me bleed out I'm sure I'll be fine.

I do hate that you can find dungeons that you're way too underpowered for.

Anyone have tips to where to find good beginner gear for a magic user?

Also, why do all the characters look so fugly? (looks fondly at Diablo 3 female avatars)

I'm awestruck at the amount of stuff they put into this game lol, I'm 12hrs in and mostly spent it in the Weeping Peninsula...but not even done there o_O

It's a souls thing. You look like **** and you have to gauge the areas and enemies yourself. Otherwise wait and use a play through guide which will appear on fightingcowboy's YouTube channel.

Those gargoyle things found in the catacombs? Indeed...to quote something I saw on reddit: "They can go suck a sandpaper d*ck"
