Hi all,

A friend of my moms is having problems with her email.
She uses the incredimail client to open her absamail and recently its been acting up.

What it does is it asks you for the email and password, the email already fille in the password blank, when you make an attempt to interact with the dialog box the mouse acts as if its not there (and the box freezes), when the box starts responding the password area dissapears and a blue box appears around the ok button.

So I assumed the client was broken and tried using outlook and exactly the same thing happened.
Now after this Im assuming its a virus, but just to be safe and to find out if there are any suggestions Im asking ya'll.

I took a screenshot of what happens and posted it below:

Thanks in advance for the help.

Telnet to the server and take a look if that works

It seems he is having a problem to actually type in the password and not with connecting to the server

Clearly you don't understand the concept of elimination

Telnet to the server, try authorizing,if it fails you have something intercepting traffic to specific ports,if it works you have something interfering with mail clients.

Now go home and let the smart people help instead of trolling your uselessness

Wow, do you always get so aggresive?

That's the 1st problem right there.

Though to be more helpfull, what AV software is she using?
Alternate to that Sign her up for a gmail account and configure gmail to grab her absamail, or have her login to absamail through her webbrowser.

It's a recent trend aimed at people trying to overly complicate my day with repetition

Look, I apologize if I offended you, I was just looking at the problem from a different point of view. I'm in no way saying that I know everything there is to know.

I was only putting emphasis on the problem that Roquefort described because I know some people will take one look at the headline and think that his username or password is invalid.

If you snap at other people on the forum, it doesn't inspire much confidence in others to post their views and ideas.

You should have explained that bit in bold in the first post, your comments in red are inappropriate.

Crap,the inappropriate police strike again

There was no need to explain my instruction as it was correct, needing to redefine the wheel everytime somebody wants a ride makes my head ache

Now had the OP asked clarification I would gladly have explained, but random person walks by,sees a post that he doesn't understand then points the owner down a whole different direction does grind the gears sliiightly

what exactly will this do?
the main problem im having is getting to type the password in, because the dialog box freezes for a while and when it resumes the password field is missing and the 'ok' button has a blue rectangle around, as in the picture.

not looking for a "fight" just an explanation

it may be a bit of both tbh
the account has the password saved, correct or incorrect im unsure, as she cant remember her password but is fairly confident it is correct.
and then yes the other problem is that i cant type the password in when requested to do so

has anyone viewed the image? that is what is puzzling me the most, its very odd

Did you try logging into the absamail webmail as Drake2007 suggested? Did it work?

no, i do not have her details with me now, and shes not answering her phone atm either.

she said the problem arose after her husband changed incredimail to her default mail manager.
i fail to see how this would have made such a huge affect, and also have no idea why outlook express would do exactly the same thing too? (blue box, cancel password field [refer to image])

Telnet would help determine if bitdefender is causing problems. If it doesn't connect, turn off the firewall and try again.

Some programs react weirdly if something interrupts network communication.

Hi all,

Just wanted to update quickly.

I have still been unable to check anything, but I will try and contact her tomorrow to see if I can get her details and see if the client has per chance started working again.

Thank you for all the responses so far, I'll get back to you all as soon as possible :)
