and that equates to a lot of BMW X5's, Chrysler 300's, and Porsche Cayenne's!

Public transport in SA does work... 80% of SA populous use it. They dont seem bothered. all a negative perception regarding taxis (even I used them in SA regularly and am still alive ;-P
 
Sure it works but its not efficient. The people who use it, use it because they have to and have no choice. Thats just more of the government abusing and taking advantage of its people. Leaving home at 5AM to be at work at 8AM is not an alternative to using a car..

I am assuming (please note i said assuming!) that the fee is not permanent as it is supposed to be used for setting up the RTMC and once that is up and running it will be laughing all the way to the bank just on speeding fines.

I don't think it will apply to traffic fines. There is no central system for fines at the moment anyway. :D
 
I doubt they will do away with the fee, once they see how many millions they can make...

What the heck are my taxes being used for? I pay income tax and sales tax but then there is a levy on everything so what is going on?

Its a new word to fastrack Taxation...

Airport Levy, Tourism levy, Petrol Levy .. it cant be called a tax 'cos then SARS want it. a Levy is just a neat little income that I bet is still @ 14% tax.
 
hmmm, maybe I should charge my employer a levy for my going to work. Do away with all that pesky income tax!

Then this person should consider moving closer to work. I don't know anyone who does that.

Might be difficult - either they will need to reapply for housing, or carry corrugated iron sheets along the highway.

Its a bit impractical to move close to work especially if you change jobs every year. :D (buy a camper and live on the road.. never heard of a Camper-Van being hijacked!)

I know of a few people who drive from Pretoria to the Vaal everyday, but that doesn't make it smart. It always makes sense to live close to where you work, whether you use public transport or not.

ofcourse you don't know anyone who does.. no one expected you to.. just like no one expects you to know anyone who has experienced violence in the country..
