I mostly use WinAVI Video Converter and MediaCoder, but they don't allow you to set your output file size, AFAIK. Are there any other apps that makes provision for this? Preferably freeware? Thanks.

I don't just want any converter - most of them are pretty poor quality. That's why I only use WinAVI or MediaCoder. Otherwise, I need to use the XviD calculator bitrate setting, which is very mercurial and hence I do not use it.

I don't do much converting unless it's into .rmvb or .mkv formats so taking stabs in the dark here about AVI, I can check out Simple DivX for you, last I rember it allows me to change the out put size but only when selecting a specific resolution & Audio compression.

So, if I understand correctly you want to convert a file but what to make it a "Custom" size and not the pre-selected ones that converters use?

Enter bitrate / final movie size
Choose 'enter bitrate' if you want to enter the video-bitrate from the divx/xvid yourself. Choose 'enter final movie size' to let simpledivx compute the correct video-bitrate for xvid/divx to fit the exact size.

It's ok. I'm encoding from AVI to AVI. I just want to make the filesize smaller.

Eish...! Seems as if Simple DivX only accepts DVD .vts files but will still Download it and give it a try with AVI files

AutoGK is quite good, I used it a few times and got excellent quality, and U can select the output size.
