Hey guys I'm new to the forum
So I just moved into my new home (first time living on my own) and I have just gotten my Internet hooked up I have a TV, a mac mini and my router set up so essentially I want some advice on what component system to get for the best experience and one the has multiple hdmi ports since I'm planning on getting a ps4 and an xbone

Budget ...

Then speakers as well?

Not quite sure how much you need :)

I'm not willing to spend more than 5k maybe 7k including speakers

I got the Samsung blue ray home theatre system about 3 years ago for around R3k. Still impressed with it. Plays almost anything you plug into USB, either from a flash disk or an external HDD. Haven't used the internet TV part, because I only have WiFi and it needs an Ethernet cable. Speakers are pretty decent as well.

Hunt around, you can find something decent for that money... if you want to have it last for a long while and give you good quality sound then try get separate components...

I saw the Sony mogongo is that any good

No... stay the fsck away...

Look at a Yamaha or Pioneer amp (maybe 2nd hand) and get some acceptable speakers....

Spend your initial money on the Amp... you can get better speakers later if you need to.

Wow just saw the Yamaha amp and speakers looks like I'll buy one piece at a time

Make sure the amp you buy has at least 3+ hdmi ports, most have 4 and above.

That way you future proof your system as they can fill fast with dstv, droidTV, xbox etc.

Hi Brumabull

I have the Sony Mgongo 5.2 . Very powerful and good sound for the R5000/R6000 price tag. It makes provision for a dedicated gaming console via the gaming HDMI port + ports for dvd and TV

Networking consider using a central PC as a server and connect the home to that via LAN cable. You could go wireless however buy the 300N technology modem/router for better video streaming. Alternatively make the PS4 the hub. Be aware that you lose some typing functionality. Its not forgiving to type with a remote.

It is not good sound, its purely powerful....

We will steer brumabull in the right direction so that he gets something he is happy with for the long term

Having heard one or two "all-in-one" type sets, I'd rather recommend a capable AV receiver in the R3k-5k range and then adding the speakers. There are very good offers to be had in the classified sections of the AVSA and local AV forum sites.

Currently running a cheapie Marantz with 4 HDMI inputs, for an Xbox360, Android box and Bluray player. I'm using matching 3.1 bookshelf speakers + sub purchased new for a bargain, which sound beautiful :)

I like new stuff but damn the receiver I want doesn't look like it's available yet and looks like it's gonna be pricey because it has 4k up scaling

+1

Just having your windows vibrate due to excessive low end while at the same time having clipping\distortion at the top is not "good sound".

Rather buy a decent receiver you are happy with and some cheap speakers, then save up for some high end speakers and sell\donate the old ones.
