Entry-level, decent component Hi-Fi system

Other minor diffs is, on most TVs the different HDMI ports have their own settings memory, so you can tune (picture quality) to each different device. With an AVR you share the same setting, which hopefully look OK for all devices.

That's actually a very nice receiver, didn't read the full specs until now :/

I've been a huge Marantz fan - but I've sold all my gear :( Perhaps this year I'll take a look at getting something like that

I'm sure on many devices, you can set the setting itself?

My TViX and my previous DVD allowed you to set it up on the device - which would then pass through to the TV

That set retails for around R9k, not bad... But then another R1k for a pair of glasses?? Family of 4... R13k...?? :p
Cheapest ones (non rechargable) can be found for R350, but you have no choice. There is no passive 3D on plasma.

I mean specific picture quality related settings e.g. like 200Hz motion for DSTV/SS for super smooth sport, but 24Hz minimal processing for Bluray to get full 'film effect'.

Ok I'm sure this is a silly q but - why would I need many hdmi inputs and USB inputs on the tv?

They connect to the stove, microwave & fridge. Remember I told you about the whole cooking dinner for you thingy.

Got my amp n speakers today!! :D Now to figure out wat cables to get...

I'm assuming that she pulled a trick out of Howard Stern's handbook, sat on the speakers, and now can't be bothered to post :D
