EPL 2011 Summer Transfers

The problem might lie in finding quality players that actually want to play for Arsenal :D

All of the last few seasons we were missing just a few signings that could've put us over the top. Yet we penny pinched and rode our luck all in the name of "competing". This season we just stepped over the line.

Quality players stay if they have quality next to them. Quality players sign-up for the opportunity to play with other quality players. The one feeds of the other. We've dug a bit of a whole for ourselves at the moment.

Well Nasri pretty much sums up your point:
He got more assists in one game for Man City then he did for Arsenal in the entire 2010/2011 season :/

Hence I'm fairly convinced that it's a problem of finding quality that will be willing to sign up for the Arsenal.

I really hope Arsenal can sign some really good players.

Arsenal keen on Yossi (who is looking to leave) and Alex... no official bids have been made yet.

This is getting interesting.

Yossi is good, but they need better players than that.

Well Wenger has explicitly said he looks to improve the current squad. Based on that theory, signing Yossi would either be a huge compliment or rude insult - depending on whether you're an Arsenal player or Yossi.
However, that said, replacing what you've lost is a good start.

Arsenal begin rebuilding process with signing of Brazil left-back Andre Santos
Arsenal agreed a £6.2 million fee last night with Fenerbahce for the Brazil left-back Andre Santos and have also made an enquiry for Chelsea midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

Chapter 5: Squad Improvement

The best way to ensure that the signing of a player in a spesific position improves your squad is to firstly ensure that you don't have any players in that position. After extensively playing other players out of position in the position you are looking to strengthen, any signing of a player that actually plays in that position would look like a massive improvement.

A leftback who would have thought.

That pretty much sums up what I was thinking. You just needed three players back then. A good solid keeper, Defender and a holding midfielder. The rest were very much capable. It could be different know come to think of it.

Love the last day of the transfer window, good viewing. The only thing that pisses me off is skysports relentless reminders about how many millions have been spent in the transfer window. 397 million last time i saw. Surely money spent between english clubs is just being passed on to others so effectively the amount of 397 million should be cut by half at least.

It makes it all the more frustrating. Seems United did us a favor on Sunday and woke up a few people, but at the end of the day this was all avoidable.

just look how poor chelsea's ageing squad is playing. now they trying to offload the rubbish to arsenal. looks almost like they dumping rubbish at the dump. wenger will pickup the scraps to save his job and pay over inflated prices for them. shame on you wenger, shame.
