Still worth a shot. GetDataBack can sort out some pretty stuffed drives.problem is i cant getdataback because i cant find the hard drive to get it back from

ok yeah i feel pretty damn stupid
inside the PC the power cable to my "D" drive was disconnected ( no idea why)
its all fixed now and i'm running the anti-virus just in case

It's most probably just a loose molex or IDE connector. Take em both out and put em back in just to be 100% sure that they aren't causing the problems.
If the problem persists, unplug the CD/DVD drive totally and then boot the PC. Is the drive back?
