ESKOM Confirms Price Increase

If you can afford a house, children and you can afford medical aid and have time to complain on a forum then i seriously think your response is more out of sport then anything else.

cuz seriously the way people are going on about this increase one would think they increased it by 100%.

I really dont care about R50 personally... but I have compassion to care about OTHER people that are not as fortunate as I.

I am complaining about the rate consumer things vs the inflation rate vs salary.

in the last 2 years, my salary has gone down by R3000 a month due to the cost if things, and companies cant afford to give increases. My electricity bill has NEVER seen R400 a month.. double that to maintain a 2.5 kids family on a Quarter-Acre stand.... and I am a geek so I have computers running (since its my bread and butter)

I was battling to make ends meet with the rate increases, but now with loadshedding I cant make ends meet, as software CAN NOT be written without electricity. So eskom wants be to pay MORE for electricity I dont get.

R50 is nothing... but that R50 increase for 2.5Hrs loadshedding costs me R400 EVERY TIME

in direct essence, Eskom is costing me R450 every time they decide to loadshed me. (I hear you harping on about buying a generator.... and my response is - why should I guy a generator for Eskoms total inability to supply with electricity... petrol is not cheap.)

So, please dont come with this 'its out of proportion' .. go tell my domestic maid that I had to let go due to a direct consequence of Eskom.

That R50 could have made it a different story.

R50 is my increase - not everyone elses.

if someone uses R100 electricity a month they pay R14 - extra. If someone uses R50 electricity they pay R6 extra.

And the fact that you have a domestic maid answers a lot. Fire her, do your own housework and you will be fine before you come complaining on a forum while your maid cleans your crap up probably for pennies.

a spoilt brat is what you are starting to sound like.

LOL R50 for your house, my business electricity is R13000.00 pm + 14% = R14820.00 - 13000.00 = R1820.00 !!!!!!!, when you have to cough up at extre 2k permonth for 90% of the power supply you were getting then there is something to complain about. and you can bet your life i will bridge my prepaid meter at home!

ag shame. R1820.00.

and yet i ask again.

WHEN LAST DID ESKOM INCREASE PRICES?

Go tell that to the person begging at your doorstep... the word is *HAD* a domestic maid.

And no, I am not a snot-faced youngster. I have worked damn hard my life to get where I am.. and I will not let anyone fvck that up.... its MY retirement they are screwing with.

Ag shame, u want to compare eskom prices to the rest of the world?, why dont u compare min wages to the rest of the world too then?, that R1820.00 is a months wages for alot of people and i could hire another person and feed a family instead of giving it to eskom for nothing!

Oh yea and they havnt increased prices because clearly nothing has been going back into infrastructure and developement, seems everything has been going to their pockets and now that they must cough up they make us pay more!

I feel your tone in response to Ricard to be harsh. I will however address your post, and hopefully, you will treat me more kindly in your rebuttal.

Its not just 14%.

14% is just on your power - that 14% also affects business. So, add an inflation increase to the picture.
Now, add a rates increase because of the inflation increase.
Factor in the social costs of domestics being let go.
Factor in the drop in economic growth because of every rising costs.

Ricard may be one man - but I am in the same position - so that is now two people.
My domestic is also becoming more a burden, financially, than I can justify. What happens to her when costs go out of control?

And none of the above factors in the associated costs in terms of the "quota system" - which we can only speculate on at this point.

any business should plan for inflation of cost. business who do not do this will FAIL.

and for the last time:

WHEN LAST DID ESKOM INCREASE PRICES?

Are you being obstinate and abusive on purpose?
Because, if that is the case, I would prefer to go play with the big kids.

im sure you work hard. we all work hard.

thats why we are on a forum talking **** and not working :)

Every year since I can remember by the city council... Eskom hasnt changed their prices, but the Municipalities HAVE.

How does your statement justify bending everyone over and giving them a royal screwing? Please tell me that.

none the less... you fail to understand it. Paying %14 extra for a RELIABLE POWER SUPPLY is justifiable..

14% Extra on an UNRELIABLE AND ERRATIC POWER SUPPLY is not justifiable. If you are happy to pay for crap, thats your perogative... but I wont tolerate paying good bucks for crap.

funny how you ignore my question as to when last eskom increased prices.

you can go play with the big boys and i will play with the intelligent ones ;)

Regardless as to whether or not I answered your question - you are being abusive to other forumites.

And - whether or not Eskom increased their prices or not, I paid more for electricity this year than last. I have no idea how much, 36c - 41c I think.
so, +- 12%?

Not sure, actually.

WHEN LAST DID ESKOM INCREASE PRICES?

Every year in March as far as I can remember. I think they were legislated to have a yearly increase of CPIX + 2 or 3%

what am i going to pay more for? cause surly it can't be for electricity, cause thats hardly there....

- you are being abusive to other forumites.

uh huh... perhaps you should go play with the big boys as you suggested to me ;)

but seriously people LOVE to complain with unjustified cause and when challenged i get told sob stories.

south africans in general (the ones who write on this forum) live a spoilt life and they dont even know it.

if anyone is abusing anyone here its our government.

Halicon - get off that high horse, and you will see that THREE people answered you.
