Eskom reportedly asks Nersa for 32.66% tariff increase

Privatise or buy power from private producers and you won't have the upfront heavy costs and maintenance - you pay for what you consume, and those suppliers have to compete to sell their energy. This mess is because of centralising it under government control, compounded by not being able to manage it. Really don't see why consumers must try carry this burden. In this economic climate, with fuel increases etc, where exactly do consumers get the extra 32% income? Most are lucky if they got 4 or 5% increases. Eskom seems to live in some fantasy world...

They'll just come asking for a 40%, in 5 months time again.
They do this at least once a year. Ask for +/- 40% and then gets approved for 12%
 
Eskom has since reached an agreement with staff for a 7% wage increase and a R400 per month housing allowance increase.

The power utility said the deal would cost over a billion rand between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023.

“This, of course, will be a struggle for Eskom to afford,” it warned.

If they cannot get the first one right, the same people won't be able to get a second one right.

It's like a software developer asking to refactor his own code. If he did it **** the first time, he'll just do it more shitty using some new trend the second time.

If they can't afford it they shouldn't have given it. And if they commit treason just shoot to kill. Easy. If only Cyril had a set of working balls.

Yikes! That is absolutely mind-blowingly insane. Not even I can find a good excuse that could justify the thought process of how a majority of us South Africans could afford this
