How to Upgrade firmware on Esquire PriVio Lite

How to Upgrade firmware on Esquire PriVio Lite

NB: Do not switch off the unit while performing the upgrade

LATEST FIRMWARE : v20100102 http://specials.esquire.co.za/Esquire_Drivers/bank30.zip

Previous Firmware : v20091218 http://www.quickshare.co.za/files/kqwycrp1/bank30.zip.html

1) Unzip the file bank30.rom file and place on a flash drive

2) Connect the Esquire PriVio Lite onto a TV and switch on the unit

3) Place the Flash drive with Bank30.rom file on the unit

4) Use the Remote and move to the Data Icon on the screen

5) You will now see the Bank30.rom file

6) Click on it and wait about 15 second (Please do not press the remote at this time)

7) You now see the message “Upgrading . Please do not switch off “

8) Once the Firmware is complete the TV screen will go blank

9) Give it another 30 seconds to update the unit

10) Power up the unit from the Power button on the unit

The Unit should now be upgraded with Ver 20091218 firmware

My first wishlist is that the PriVio Light comes standard with an HDMI cable, not sure how that would affect the price though

If there are any issues with scanning for media:

The unit can only take 3 levels of folders at the moment per category

i.e.

Under Movies no more than three folders deep

Under Music no more than three folders deep

Under Photo no more than three folders deep

So my inital upgrade to v20091218 went fine last night, will do the upgrade to v20100102 tonight

Had some problems in finding files, but will plug in the unit to my PC now and check as i'm not sure if the files are there.

Didn't see h264 or matroska in the playback list. That'll put me off buying one immediately

It is true the Esquire PriVio Lite does not support H264 , MKv containers formats as this is Lite version , The Esquire PriVio Pro will have those as a standard including PVR ,wireless and Lan function , we currently testing the unit before we bring it to market around March 2010

However we do have the Mede8er , IaMM Novatron NDT37L and NDT38 in stock that allow for those functions

Esquire, what is the possibility of having MKV and h264 compatibility for the PriVio Lite?

I'm going to probably ask something very stupid, but can the codec's for MKV and h264 not be implemented by the manufacturer.

Are the codecs not upgradeable through a firmware update?

I have asked already but apparently the chipset does not support these features , That is why with the new model Esquire PriVio Pro we will be using the ESS, Realtek or Sigma design chipsets

how is the quality of video playback?

I want to get one for watching series, at present i have a pc connected to my tv with a 256mb graphics card and the quality of playback is pretty good (350mb per episode) so don't want to lose quality (i have a normal 74cm tv, not lcd :)
