Well, I seem to have resolved my issues. I have updated the firmware to 20100101 from 20090925(?), but it did not help in my case. Then I formatted the drive with FAT32 on 250gig partitions. This seems to have done the trick. I had NTFS on before.

Good to hear its working now but my 1TB is a NTFS drive (as Windows will not format such a large partition as FAT32, you would need to bypass that using another tool)

I just got mine, it is fitted with the 1t driver, I spend a couple of hours transferring the files to the unit, I eagerly got up this morning and low and behold I had the same problems described in threads found here. My fist move was to update the firmware, this did not work as I only got the searching screen, Second move was to unplug the drive, this did work and firm ware updated successfully. I then plugged the hdd back in and switched everything on, Now I can’t see my files, What now, I can move all these files to my spare HDD and reformat the Esquire but it seems like such a waste, |Any ideas/Help

sorry for my late reply as I was away for a few days , regarding the upgrading the firmware , download it from our website ,

it is last one on the page EN328SHL (Esquire PriVio Lite)
extract the File Bank30.rom on a Flash Drive and switch on the unit
with the remote move to Data icon and press OK on Remote
you should see the file Bank30 file , on the file Press Ok and wait until it is done , wait another 30 seconds and switch off and switch on again , the unit should than be upgraded and the issue of Searching....Searching should be fixed.
If you not sure what to do read the file Instruction.txt file on the same winzip file or call our Technical team for assistance

Check your file names , they should not be longer than 40 characters and make sure they do not have any /{}[]"<> symbols on the file names , I found this on one the clients drives two weeks ago even after I upgraded the firmware , when I renamed the files and removed those symbols everything worked fine , we are currently busy working on a the new Firmware to fix the Symbol Issue , the Folder issue of going deeper then 3 Folders and increasing the file names to longer than 40 characters as soon I get it will have it posted it on our website and will make an announcement on MyBB, this is about the only few issues left to fix, apart from those issues the unit is extremely simple to operate and extremely stable , I have already filled two units with 1TB drives with data and using one of them right now as I am posting this.(BTW I spilt the 1TB to 2x500GB partitions. )

Another request, would the PriVio be able to handle a DVDROM drive plugged into the USB?
I copied over aprox 60 folders, I copied it into the movies folder,
I have moved it into the main root menu now and that seems to have sorted the problem, The folders was not more than 3 deep and i cant understand why its doing it but thanks i got it working

Found it out the hard way myself, if there are too many files/folders it seems to hang or not find anything!
Not a problem, trying to get my PriVio as perfect as possible

Buy the way I reformatted the drive on NTFS and then was able to do a firmware upgrade.It worked,it saves and plays movies now but I have a few more issues if anyone can answer?
1.If I create a file called action under the movie file and then place batman and indiana jones under this file it will only play 1 of the movies,if you click on the other movie it goes back to the previous one?what is the best way to save movie folders?
2.If I press skip in a movie it skips to the next movie and not chapters?
3.My movies I saved as xvid.avi.+mp3 in a program called dvdfab and they play through the privio but they seem to have allot of audio issues,the sound is jerky or off cue.I checked the same copied movie on my pc and it was fine?Any suggestions?

If you have dvdfab am I saving my movies in the best possible way for this harddrive?

1. Which file plays and which one doesn't?
2. If your using .avi there won't be chapters?
3. What bitrate is the video and audio encoded at?
1.Usually the last file plays.
2.The chapter thing makes sense.duh to me.
3.The bitrate I choose fixed bitrate 5000kbps;high quality 2 pass encoding;audio at 64kbps;720 x 400;24fps

1. Just make 100% which files are not playing, maybe copy them to each folder. Its usually that the bitrate is too high and thats why it skips. They are .avi right?

3. That bitrate looks way too high, try a sample file at 2500kbps
