eth device here soon?

Precisely... if you can provide me with an ethernet device, and no bundled minutes etc and just data, I will become ALOT more interested in your service.

I rather like the fact that you get voice as well.

But without being able to use the net while using voice makes this useless.

Especially since you can't use your own phone anyway or fax. So we still need to keep the telkom lines.

Data only packages will be welcome indeed.

I want an ethernet device linked to my data, and then my handset linked to my voice - as a converged offering. So when my wife wants to phone she can sit in the bedroom and I can still surf.

Exactly. What happens if we want two handsets?

Like one the kitchen and one in the bedroom?

It's not like we can just plug a splitter into Neotels device and use our own phones.

These people who are meant to give us choice are very restrictive hey?

Well, having unlimited bandwidth and a VoIP/sip server somewhere for cheap and a 24/7 permanent internet connection would allow you to setup a sip server (Asterix) turn your cell phone into a sip client/headset, so once you step into your home, your cell phone is hand held device with your own extension inside your house, you can do your own voice mail service from your own home. Access it via the web from where ever to listen to your voice mails, probably ten times better.

We should have been there 10 YEARS ago, but no, we have to be "managed liberalised" .

The possibilities are endless, we just need lower latency and more bandwidth, adsl can make it all happen, except Telkom had to go and "shape" your account.

*sigh* perhaps one day Neotel will give us what we need with fibre.

Don't go and twist Poison Ivy's words. She merely wants to institute "managed liberalisation" so that she can manage the process of unmanaging the telecommunications industry...there is no spoon!

Critical Consumer tell us about the device you have been "playing around with"...we promise we won't tell the Neotel rep if you give us a sneak peak.

It's close...maybe next week
Been playing around with a device today :D

Do you work for Neotel or something? Because you know a suspisciously large amount about them and their prospective offerings...hmmmm

That and if... hypothetically... someone wanted to uh...steal the aforementioned ethernet device from you...what address would they need to go to?:D

I've heard from an Postnet employee that they are all summond for a meeting (info session) and he recons it's regarding the new device. Could be really soon.

Well, since eveyone is getting in on the action with the rumors...

I heard that Neotel are getting Superman, Lance Armstrong and Julius Malema in as their marketing "dream team" to campaign for the new ethernet Neotel device...
