Euro 2012 Thread

You can't? Since when? I thought thats a huge part of how we judged an attacking player. As in 95%.

In other words it's people like him that make liverpool think they are good :p

In the Harry Potter novels they are called mudbloods, but that's getting way off topic...

lol. that was out of left field! still relevant though. coming back to downing. i was very surprised he was included. his form was not good at all during the season. he should count himself very lucky to have made the euros...

I heard the English commentators say that Jones is not ready for international football. i can't understand why Richards was not picked ahead of him.

Jones will step up to the plate, but Downing... Carroll...

He'd be quite at home with the duffers England have atm, but I agree, he should not be first cjoice RB or CB.

Richards should have been picked ahead of Johnson, let alone Jones.

I'm not sure what Richards has done to the FA. Must be the same thing Berba did to SAF and what Maxi did to 'king' Kenny.

defenders first job is too defend...then comes the other stuff...i would choose kelly over johnson at club level and richrds over him at national level..

Strange I thought Evra and Ribery aren't allowed to play for France anymore? What happened to Goucuff?

I see he had a very indifferent season and failed to impress this past weekend, Blanc going to Euro's with no playmaker... keen to see how this plays out

Great team for the Euro, a squad of 23 but capable of playing 25/6 man positions, exciting times ahead!

4-3-1-2 is the coaches favourite, but the team has the ability to adapt formation to 3-5-2 (Juve's formation), 4-4-2, 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3

Joachim Low named his final squad of 23;

Goalkeepers:
Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)
Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen),
Ron-Robert Zieler (Hanover 96)

Defenders:
Holger Badstuber (Bayern Munich)
Jerome Boateng (Bayern Munich)
Benedikt Hoewedes (Schalke 04)
Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich
Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)
Marcel Schmelzer (Borussia Dortmund)

Midfielders:
Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen)
Mario Goetze (Borussia Dortmund)
Ilkay Guendogan (Borussia Dortmund)
Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)
Toni Kroos (Bayern Munich)
Thomas Mueller (Bayern Munich)
Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid)
Marco Reus (Borussia Moenchengladbach)
Andre Schuerrle (Bayer Leverkusen)
Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich)

Forwards:
Mario Gomez (Bayern Munich)
Miroslav Klose (Lazio)
Lukas Podolski (Cologne)

Low did experiment with a 4-4-2 at times, but with 3 forwards and some quality midfielders, I'd chance that we'll continue to see the 4-2-3-1 that has served them well over the past 4 years.

It's a powerful team. 8 Champions League finalists, 4 Bundesliga Champions and 2 La Liga Champions. Hit a bump on the weekend though when their ''weakened'' team went down 5-3 to the Swiss.

John Heitinga (Everton)
Joris Mathijsen (Malaga)
Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord)
Wilfred Bouma (PSV Eindhoven)

Midfielders:

Ibrahim Afellay (Barcelona)
Mark van Bommel (AC Milan)

Stijn Schaars (Sporting Lisbon)
Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan)
Kevin Strootman (PSV Eindhoven)

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke)
Luuk de Jong (FC Twente)
Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool)
Luciano Narsingh (Heerenveen)

As always, a typical Holland squad. Weak defense but there's plenty of attacking prowess in the midfield and upfront. 4-2-3-1 as always.
