I don't care for England but I can't help but feel sorry for Southgate, just a little bit of luck and things could have gone his way. But he was up against a formidable opponent, the difference in class is clear.

a. Played as many of the available ‘has beens’ and left talented players on the bench

b. Turned the team into the national equivalent of Stoke

c. Had no strategy to utilise the creative players in the squad

Because he maintains the status quo, and gets "results". He's taken them to 2 Euro finals, and a WC quarter & semi final. On paper those results are decent.
