I decided to make the change from Mweb to Afrihost because I heard it was much better than Mweb. Since the service started, my speed has been much slower from around 18:00 to 23:00 during the week and around 15:00 to 23:00 on the weekends, I've done checks to make sure I'm not being throttled during these times. I'm supposed to be receiving 8mbps, but during these hours I receive just over 2mbps. I also ran tracerts during these hours and find very high ping for some of the hops which are not nearly as high when out of those hours, results below.

tracert 8.8.8.8

Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 10.0.0.2
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 49 ms 49 ms 49 ms cpt-up1.ip.adsl.co.za [169.1.5.105]
4 77 ms 87 ms 103 ms 169-1-21-66.ip.afrihost.co.za [169.1.21.66]
5 107 ms 99 ms 114 ms cpt-net1.ip.adsl.co.za [169.1.5.128]

10 71 ms 71 ms 70 ms google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]

I moved from Afrihost to Crystal Web due to bad latency/throughput in the evenings/most weekends. Don't have any issues anymore.

Thanks for the suggestion, went on to their site to inquire and found that their 4mbps is more expensive than Afrihost's 8mbps, I get that you pay for quality but not that much.

Again, thanks for the suggestion.

Go with a capped account, https://crystalweb.co.za/product-home-capped.html 150 GB is what I'm on, with a 10Mbps line it's R574.00.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

Did the exact same thing. Issues disapeared immediately.

Hi there MrSquigy, thanks for your post and for your initial testing. :) I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience. I can certainly see the lower speeds and the weird latency in your tests. Please feel free to drop me a PM with your accounts details when you encounter this again and we'll run through some realtime troubleshooting. :)

I am experiencing the same on my AH capped account. Switched to my backup WA account and problem gone. Also in CT.

Sorry to hear about your poor experience, acidman1! :( We have been reporting all poor experiences from clients in the South to our Network Team. Please drop me a PM with your account details and I'll do the same for you. :)

Was a solution to this problem ever found?
I'm having pretty much the exact same problems, but my spiking happens at any time of the day and will go down for a while and then spike again.

Traceroute screenshots in the link if anyone is interested.

We're not currently seeing any general issues with regards to latency... How are things running for you this evening?

This problem has reared its head a few times over the last year. It literally happens randomly and then becomes constant for a while then gets fixed. I have switched to my backup account solidly for over a month now because of this. When my line is working and Telkom aren't "performing upgrades in my area to move me to the new faster better greaterestest infrastructure blah"

We've been working very hard (when I say we, I really mean the dedicated network team that have been tirelessly cracking away at this) to get performance to the best possible level. As far as I am aware, performance in the North has been very stable recently, and I haven't been having any issues with latency.

Any tests you've run will be helpful in recreating exactly what you are experiencing so we can fix anything from our side.
