Unfortunately Checo had an engine issue this race otherwise it might very well have been a 1-2 this weekend. Nothing he could do about that personally.
RB seem to be having more reliability woes than others this early on - Max didn't get a run in FP3, the other issues from earlier in the season, Checos issues - if they iron those out then they are best placed to run away with it - Ferrari just seem to lack top-end speed

Alpha Romeo have done really well overall - just hampered by mistakes here and there but their overall package is way better than last year

Forgot about that, 20kw loss due a faulty sensor? He was losing half a second a lap apparently?

I still think it's too early to write off the Mercs.
I might have said that before practice and development caps. They can't really develop their car if they wanted to. There just isn't the same amount of time to do anything as there was back in the day. By race 5 you can see where the chips fall for the year it seems.

Yes and when he makes a mistake he apologises to the team

I wonder if the 3 US races next year will be a triple header - one after the other
Its not sensible from a commercial standpoint. F1 prefer to space out the races where possible so people are more willing to go to multiple races throughout the year. The likelihood of someone going to 2-3 races in the US if they were one week after the other is minimal. Its also why the Canadian and US (COTA) races are at different times of the year.

Time is not the issue. Its money now with the budget cap. The days of a team bring a B spec car is unlikely now - unlike in 2009 when all non double diffuser teams made a new car with a DD

Yes, I did watch that as well as FP1.
For the qualifying debacle that Verstappen had, he did brilliantly to monster past Sainz (who is still trying to prove himself with Ferrari...just not as quick as Le Clerc right now). Then, with the RBR's straight line speed it became a matter of time before he overtook Le Clerc.
Pity Checo's car was down on power as it would have spiced things up. Good race by the top 4.
Pity that Bottas clipped the wall when he was in 5th as it gifted the 2 slower Mercs places they wouldn't necessarily have gained.
What Gasly was doing when he took out Norris is anyone's guess, and Mick had a brain fart. Both he and Seb were on for points and really Seb deserved points after driving the hell out of that AMR (cold fuel...? Never heard of that before).
The track? Not bad, but street races aren't the future are they? Hopefully not...

Does the above help?
He said his car was messed up after Alonso divebombed him. They decided to do another lap to assess the damage and that was the lap he went off and then collected Lando

Yip, the season would be even better if McLaren could get their car sorted, I wouldn't mind seeing Lando and Ric up there with the top guys.
I think it shows that these cars have very minimal operating windows to be relatively competitive. After the last race, I saw many articles on how Mclaren were able to fight back from being near the crappy first few races. This weekend they were back there again and seemed that Imola was a once off (for now)

The biggest mistake F1 had ever made, was removing refuelling for cars. That took away al kinds of different strategies. There is a huge difference is going for a quick run on soft with a light fuel load, than doing the same with heavy fuel. It could put real pressure on your competitors. Even the time to refuel made tyre options more exciting. Doing long runs on hard also involved being stationary in the pits for so much longer.

Yes safety was involved in the decision, but surely with all their billions and the best engineers in the world, they could have come up with better refuelling designs.

I too miss refueling. That said, it's not coming back. Same as those V10 engines.

I thought I heard him on the radio saying the car is struggling to turn left... Something loose or broken could easily have kicked him left slightly into lando

Le Clerc keeps on making mistakes that keeps Verstappen close in the championship.

Because they've got an okay lead driver, and a mediocre second driver. Put Lewis or Max in that car and it would be first every single race.
LOL Lewis? Is that now the guy that gets beaten by his inexperienced teammate every race?

It is clear that the Ferrari is the fastest car, except for straight line speed. But unfortunately its only for a lap or two. The RB seems to preserve their tyres better, so race pace the RB is the better car.
