I hope Sainz goes to Williams. He puts in consistently good performances and between himself and Albon, they'd probably end up in the points nearly every race. That's the Disney story arc I'd like to see.

I think it would be an insult for him coming from Ferarri to Williams where he fights for 1-2 points per race. I'd much rather see him in the 2nd RedBull seat fighting at the front of the field, not like Perez fighting with the backmarkers

You want boring?

I mistakenly decided to watch the Indy 500 which started hours late due to 'a wet track'.

After an hour of typically American build up with marching soldiers, national anthem, introducing all the drivers, and their wives, and their children, we finally got to race.

As with Monaco, red flag on lap one. This gives DSTV an opportunity to run their 'promos'. I do believe in a single hour we saw more promos than racing. I think I fell asleep after about 80 laps when they were on safety car no 12, or 20. More promos - the same promos, more cars going round and round in a circle.

If the DSTV ads weren't enough, the American commentators had their own ads to read, again and again.

Can you imagine F1 having full-screen adverts and promos every time there's a yellow flag, or every time there's not a yellow flag...

Either Americans have a very high boredom threshold, or a very low entertainment expectation.

Never again

Eh. 649 passes, 49 lead changes and a record 18 different leaders.

And the finish:

The final pass, on the outside, at 350 kmh.

Also, there is probably a technical explanation to Sainz's reinstatement to P3 after the 1st lap incident, but come one!

There is.

F1's sporting regulations are clear that the restart order will be taken at the last point where there was complete timing data for all the cars. At the time of the red flag, it looked to all and sundry like it would have been possible to use the first sector timing line (at the entrance to Mirabeau) for this, and had this been the case, Sainz would definitely have started from towards the back.

The reason why the first sector timing line wasn't used is that because the crash between Magnussen, Hulkenberg and Perez massively held up Zhou, the sole driver behind the three of them. The debris field from the collision was such that Zhou had to pick his way through it at such a slow pace that the medical car overtook him on its way to the crash itself (!!), he was then further delayed by the medical personnel exiting the medical car, and was only just clear of the three wrecked cars at the time the red flag was thrown. The first sector timing line therefore couldn't be used: not all the cars that were still running had crossed it before the red flag came out.

The FIA therefore reverted to the previous timing point on the track that all cars still running had indeed crossed. In this case, this was the second safety car line: the white line on the track that signifies the point where the pit exit ends. In Monaco, this is at the exit to Sainte Devote. Sainz was the third driver across this line, and hence he restarted the race in third. There were a few shuffles further down the grid as well based on how well they had done in the first corner: for example, Stroll had overtaken Ricciardo into Sainte Devote, and consequently started ahead of him in the restart. Zhou was promoted to 17th due to Perez and the Haas pair being unable to return to the pit lane. Ocon's retirement was in the pit lane, so those behind were not promoted a further position: Ocon's place on the restarted grid was left vacant instead.

If I was in his position, I would take the Audi deal. He needs to realize his chances of WC is over for now. Merc won't be contending in '25 and it looks like Toto is holding on that Max jumps ship for 26 and/or Antonelli.

Ferrari is booked.
Mclaren is booked.
Aston is booked.

RB might open up in '26 if Max decides to jump, so there is that option but all signs are pointing that Ferrari, Merc and Mclaren will be top dogs again come 26 with the unknown for RB's engines.

Williams could be a viable option purely based on the Merc engine deal, but yah.. nowhere to go really to be in the top 6 again next year unless he drives for Merc or RB on a 1 year deal.
Agreed. I'd would say Audi is his best long(er) term deal. If RB hold onto Perez, it'll be because they can't sign their preferred replacement. I hope Perez' current form continues to 2026. Williams should reach out to Latifi to fill their vacant seat; his family money is less controversial than Sargeant's. I think.

Absolutely. It's a strategy game more than anything, but certainly still exciting and ultimately very unpredictable unlike the current F1.
Shame, that overtake was a lap too early.

I think the best move reagrding Carlos AND Merc would be for Carlos to take a 1 year contract wiht Merc while Merc get Kimi ready for F1 by giving him a second year in F2.

then Carlos can go to audi in 2026 and Kimi can join F1 in 2026 (most likely in a williams not straight into a Merc)

I also heard that Bottas was having coffee with James Vowels over at Williams.

Hell I am glad I am not driver agents at this time. Carlos does not want a year contract, Merc does not want to give long term contract to Carlos due to possible Max and/or Kimi move.

Audi wants Carlos to sign long term deal, but Carlos does not want to run with a back end team for a year or two until they, hopefully, move up the order.

And this is just Carlos.. then there is still Perez, Magnussan, Bottas, both Alpine drivers that will have similar crap..

Personally, I would bring in Mick to Merc for one year to fill the gap until 2026. Toto is fully in rebuilding phase for 26, so he can probably let one year go without worrying too much about results.

Bring Kimi into Williams or use him as reserve driver. This way Toto can see how the market plays out next year in his attempt to lure Max to Merc for 2026.

If he can't lure him then he would have seen if Mick truly has anything or not and whether Kimi is ready for a Merc seat.
