As mentioned in another comment, if you are going to do this then you need to do the same with Lewis (2014, 2015, 2019, 2020), Senna (88), Michael (02, 04), Vettel (2011, 2013), etc.
Good drivers tend to get good cars and then they do exactly what you should do in a good car; hammer your rivals.
Perez was a good driver. People are quick to forget that for a sustained period of time he was consistently the ''best of the rest'' in the standings. IE, the best non-Mercedes, Red Bull or Ferrari ('Big Three') driver. In 2015 the Williams duo of Bottas & Massa pipped him but that was when Williams were making exceptional use of the Merc PU and were regular contenders for podiums. In 2016 and 2017 only the 'Big Three' drivers beat him. In 2018 he was narrowly pipped by Nico Hulkenberg to ''best of the rest'' and in 2019 Carlos Sainz was the only driver not in driving for the 'Big Three' to beat him. Perez was no slouch when he got the Red Bull seat.
