MS

around 2000 ?

sorry I forgot the caption in my rush.

"An absolute wet-weather great: Michael Schumacher. Here he is at the Nurburgring in 2000. Additional fact: this was the last race before he switched to his now-iconic all-red helmet design."

Don't McLaren develop their own engines for their sportscars (MP4-12C, 650S etc), not to mention the hybrid in the P1? Surely they can develop their own engine then for their F1 car? Or are McLaren F1 and McLaren Road two separate and independent entities?

Road car engines are built by some company called Ricardo something or other

KIMI'S ON IT STRAIGHT AWAY
Purple sectors across the board for Raikkonen to reclaim P1.
The day's fastest lap is now a 1:21.324.

Perhaps Red Bull won't finish fastest after all as Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen have just snatched top place back, on the same soft tyres.

The SF70-H's time of 1:21.324 is a full half-second quicker than the RB13's, albeit with the caveat that we don't know the respective cars' settings.

Sauber jumps up to sixth - ahead of Bottas's now-parked Mercedes - with ultra-softs for Giovinazzi.

Unfortunately, we had to change the engine today. Our guys are currently working hard to try and go out again, with @carlosainz. #F1Testing

A very fast first sector from Kimi...and a second...and a new timesheet topping time of 1:20.872 from the Ferrari on soft tyres

It's the Finn's best time of the week although team-mate Sebastian Vettel went quicker on the same compound yesterday

Grosjean has passed the 100-lap mark for Haas, an impressive feat on a day where a lot of the running was compromised by the wet test conditions.

Another improvement for Giovinazzi on the ultra-softs, while Raikkonen has backed off for two laps in the row. Will he try again on this set of softs? We'd all love to see an ultra-soft run, if Ferrari is listening (we suspect it has better things to do).

Raikkonen does push again, but despite a new best time through the final sector he is four tenths down on his fastest.

And Kimi isn't the only one making an improvement as Renault's Jolyon Palmer takes third with a 1:21.778 to make it Ferrari-Red Bull-Renault-Force India at the head of the Day Four timesheet with 20 minutes to go.

Quickest on track at the moment is Palmer, in the high 1m23s. Just 16 minutes of this first pre-season test remaining. Still time for some drama.

Great news for Sauber fans, as Giovinazzi improves to a 1m22.401s.
The Ferrari/Sauber reserve driver puts the car in fourth place with the help of ultra soft tyres.

That's a wrap for 2017 Winter Testing Week One!

Kimi Raikkonen fastest in today's rather strange wet-dry session, but Mercedes end the week with the fastest time overall.

Well then, what did you make of that? An intriguing first week of Formula 1 2017, with plenty to discuss. And what's the best bit? You only have to wait five days for more.

It's fair to say Mercedes have been the big winners in Test One, with Ferrari not far behind, while Red Bull may be waiting to show their hand next week. And McLaren? The less said, the better...

Roundup videos (youtube) will be linked here in the morning.

And to start with ere is Ted's verdict of the First Test:
