It's the same with anything.
If you don't like it, don't use it.

Same as if you don't like the contents of a book or a film, don't start campaigns to ban it, because you are triggered by it.
Just don't read or watch it.
 
I will invent a vaccine for this plague.

Actually, hopefully it will become a lethal disease and wipe out every user. So many problems solved.

It's not a once off click process, I have unfollowed the people I don't want to see over a period of about 10 years... and I have added the Science and News feeds I want to see. I do not primarily use if for business, but rather for information gathering. I now have it configured exactly the way I want, by adding the ones I want to see to the "show first" category, by moving others to the "see less often" group and by completely unfollowing those I don't want to see.

I gave up when Facebook allowed my secure, private data to:
  • Facebook allowed Cambridge Analytica to harvest private data of 87 million users
  • Facebook let major tech firms access private messages, friends lists (Bing could see nearly "all Facebook users’ friends without consent.")
  • Facebook promotes fake news (antivaxxers)
  • Facebook asked users for their personal email passwords to 2FA them
  • Facebook allowed third-party developers to leave 540 million Facebook users data exposed in S3 bucket.
  • Apple revoked Facebook’s developer certificate over data-snooping apps
  • Unencrypted user credentials stored on Facebook internal servers
  • Facebook allowed 50 million accounts to be breached by access-token-harvesting attack
  • Facebook wanted to partner with banks to access your financial data to "improve" your FB experience
  • Facebook photo API feature resulted in millions of people having their private photos become improperly accessible by up to 1,500 apps
  • Used my 2FA SMS number to market to me
  • Facebook scraped private call, text message data from Android phones
  • etc
Despite my efforts to secure my data, facebook allowed the above.

I deactivated my account. Been a couple of weeks now, and my life is exactly the same.
 
Facebook for a Buy/Sell Group.
Twitter for CityPowerJHB updates.
MyBB for comments.

The End.
I f**ing can't stand social media and what it's done (and is going to do) to the world, especially Twitter.

Normal human behavior is to act upon those recommendations which cannot be hidden. This is basic strategy of advertisements.

People see ads it's become normal and people buy those items. There is a reason why Apple, Samsung, Coke advertises everywhere. Seeing things affects. It's a simple basic strategy that has been proven to work very good.
It's difficult for people to just ignore things if they are exposed to it over and over again.

In conclusion if Facebook was a gun it was created to point back at your face. Most people won't point it in another direction because they are not aware the gun is pointing at their face.

So it took you 10 years of micromanagement when there should be an option to just have it the way you want it. It's not that they cannot do it like that but rather that they won't. Don't forget that you are the actual product. It's in their best interest to show you what they want to show you and to make you use it the way they want you to use it.

Yes it's a tool. But you can absolutely blame the tool if it's set up to be as complicated as possible to use and feed you what you don't want to see.

Dude, all that you are doing here is telling everyone that you don't know how Facebook works.

Facebook already has a business platform, several actually. Plain Vanilla Facebook CAN be used for business, but it is hardly the only useful function. It works extremely well as a news feed or educational tool, and there are literally thousands of science and educational groups that use it and put content on it every single day.

You DON'T add all your friends and feeds in one day. Nobody does that. You add friends and feeds over time as new people join. When you add them you configure their importance to you on your feed as time goes by. It's not micro-management, it's just how social media works (I feel really stupid even having to explain this, because pretty much every moron on the Internet knows how social media works - but no ALL of them apparently). The rest of your second paragraph above is just the usual conspiracy theory crap that we have come to expect of you.

Internet users are fickle and will move on to the next thing that they find useful or entertaining. Just ask MySpace. Who has time for that? It's very much micromanagement. The only reason you don't see the crap is because you've taken an enormous amount of time to get rid of it. I don't see it because I don't use it. Everybody else will see it.

Take your head out of the sand. You are the product. That's the business aspect. It's irrelevant whether or not you have a business account. That's why they make it so difficult and tedious to configure it correctly because it's in their best interest that you don't.
