Don't know where they got the 128 from???. Was never even a possible option. Will take it up. If you have a name, PM me please.

4U + bundle 100% possible. Quite a few forumites do this.

Btw, just got confirmation all your numbers on all APN's are provisioned for 384K in the up-link.

I think they got it from the Vodacom website?

Under Services -> 3G -> 3G HSDPA -> How Do I Get It?

Under Terms and Conditions it states - "HSDPA-Network, maximum downlink speed is 1.4mb/s. Maximum uplink is 128 Kb/s"

So is the website wrong?

Yes, will have it fixed. We did launch with 128K in the uplink but it got upgraded a month or so after launch.

I think there is more i could not find on the FAQ....

I am on mtn and I want to use VODACOM prepaid mobile data.

I am aware that I need to get a vodacom sim card.

I probably have to have my phone setup with the APN. on MTN i send a key sequence *123*13# And my settings are sent to my phone, what is the equivalent process on Vodacom ?

Is there a specific VODACOM prepaid simcard that i need to get, i heard about the R2.00 variety will these do ?

Thanks

The data coverage map is in the process of being updated so don't take it as gospel if it shows no coverage. There has been a huge number of additional Vodacom 3G/HSDPA sites commissioned countrywide over the last few weeks, and not all of these are currently reflected on the map. Likewise, there are still other sites to be commissioned, so keep checking on the map.

According to the data coverage map my house is outside of the coverage area...I went to rentafone (at the airport) and rented a hsdpa modem and tested at home, it worked like a dream, so I got my contract (and HP notebook) on Saturday, one happy customer!:)

And I can also add that this prompted me to cancel my telkom ADSL line...so I'm no longer a telkom customer.

The map tends to err on the conservative side, so testing, like you did, is always a good idea.

What do the colours of the lights on my Vodafone Huawei mean? Doesn't seem to make any diff if it's solid blue (now), solid green or green flashing

Flashing = logged on but no connection established
Flashing green twice = not logged on yet or can't log on
On = logged on and connection established
Green = gprs/edge
Blue = 3G network
If it's sending or receiving with hsdpa both the green and blue lights are on making it cyan but otherwise it goes back to blue.

How to purcfhase prepaid via sms

We have a situation where we are using prepaid airtime for data with E220 modem. R2.00 per meg.

How can we load more airtime, without taking the sim out and placing it in a phone? We have the voucher.

Download E620Tool and use the following USSD command:
Code:
*100*01*<voucher number>#

You may want to consider converting some of that airtime into a data bundle, and for that you can use the Myphone menu by sending:
Code:
*111#

You can use [searchforum]ginggs' application[/searchforum], which supports USSD commands to load an airtime voucher, but you would be well advised to buy pre-paid data bundles with the airtime instead of transferring data at the ZAR2.00/MB out of bundle rate, more info about buying PPDBs and how to do it in the sticky FAQ thread.

<added>Just seen ginggs' post, snap :D.</added>

Does this app replace the Mobile Connect software, or is it just an extra app you run, when you want to use USSD?

If they had PPDB below 500MB like MTN, then I would not have to surf at R2.00.
They have 75MB @ R88, 150MB @ R119, and 250MB @ R160. If you want something inbetween like MTN's 350MB unfortunately there isn't such a bundle but the 250MB will still save you a lot.

Also try http://www.smartcall.co.za/smartLoad.shtml for 9% discount and you don't have to take the sim out of the modem to recharge it. The big bonus vouchers are also not too bad. ;)

i'VE read the FAQs as best I can, also searched the VC site, but nowhere can I find out if , when you buy a Mymeg or My 500 bundle,you get a service provider. I want to get one of these for home, but do I still need to pay extra for an ISP? We will use gmail, but who lets us browse? Does this make sense?
I s'pose this is a dumb question, but please be kind!

Vodacom is also your 'ISP', so you joust get the data and off you go.
