Faulty modems cause ADSL delays

Thank goodness they've seen the light at last. They are giving netgear modems out now. Plainly the returns of mega 105's were overflowing the warehouse.

Lol, what is new? They give you the cheapest trash they can lay their hands on while charging you 100 more for the service than they should.

Only reason they stopped selling the trash was because it was so bad it failed their own tests. Sad.

Telkom said that they did receive delivery of some of the new stock required in mid-May and are expecting further deliveries around the 25th of May

WTF... June / July / May... tututut

Agreed. Stop supplying your customers with the cheapest equipment that you could get your hands on.

ROFL.

The Telkom re-branded routers are billion routers, but Telkom paid a fortune to have the BIOS re-written to telkom's specs to reset onto the 10.0.0.* network (For support reasons, somebody decided that 192.168.0.* was too difficult).

And, with the introduction of SP3 of XP, plenty of customers returned their routers when they discovered that the router was not compatible with SP3's wireless network changes (Specifically in the DHCP area). The users would find that the wireless connection would hang on "getting ip address". A handy reboot of the router solved the problem until the next re-connect. So, the Telkom routers were handed back to Telkom, and Telkom sent them off to the supplier, and the customer got a new router, with the same problem.

So, now, stocks are running low, and Telkom is getting a lot of pressure, but the problem is actually still not solved.

Telkom pressures the supplier, and the new shipment (the "bad quality" ones referred to in the document) were simply not flashed correctly to include Telkom's insistance on the 10.0.0* network.

So, instead of the 2 coming to an agreement, Telkom sent them back, quoting poor quality.

i.e. If Telkom had not made their own version of the bios, and had allowed customers to download the latest version to flash themselves, this entire problem could have been averted.

I actually like the re-branded modem (re-flashed back to non-telkom bios) simply because they seem to be so damn power-surge (think light lightning) proof.

Sounds like you work for the Billion supplier. That post has spin written all over it. Didnt the Billions have an auto provisioning feature making it able to download the firmware prior to first time use? Wonder what ever happened to that idea..

Spin or no, have to agree with you though, im a Billion fan, not because of them being lightning proof, they are good routers, whatever happened here must be Helkom's fault.

I don't work for Billion, or Telkom.

I do deal with Telkom's customers that are completely bewildered as to why stuff suddenly stops working (After SP3), and have seen how Telkom's swap-out of the router did not solve the problem, and have re-flashed at least 9 of those Telkom routers.

I have also tried valiantly to explain to the people on the other side of the Telkom shop counter what is going on with these endless complaints about the router, the same router that was working perfectly for more than 2 years.

Errr, am I missing something here? Why don't people just go buy their own ADSL modem or router from Incredible Connection or a million other different suppliers out there?

Only a fool would rely on Telkom for their equipment.

Are you talking about those Mega 100/105WR routers?
Apart from the XP SP3 issue, I have this problem as well with mine? Any way to fix it with a default BIOS firmware??

Any of my clients that have chosen the helkom route, i get quite arrogant with. I simply wont support "that part" of the work and most times have no problems convincing them to cancel their 24 monther and rather buy a decent entry level modem

hmm... this is rather interesting!!

I was at telkom today to send in my 105wr because it has a problem so now i gotta wait for them to get a new shipment, i'm kinda hoping that they give me a siemens or netgear modem...

Lets just cross fingers...

I don't know what the underlying router is for the 105WR's. Upload a picture so that I can find one and see what it actually is.

Working in one of those computer shops, all I can say is this is good for business :)

For once, I can say I love Telkom for being so slack xD
