Favourite coffee

I am surprised Tribe Coffee in CPT hasn't been brought up. Super affordable beans that taste great. My two favorite from them are :
They have really nice coffee, I have tried most of them and there were only 2 in their range that were not great , I think it was the decaf and the Columbian one.

Decaf is not coffee.

Woolies beans have been the most consistent for me.

If you haven't tried them yet Blend 97 from Mastertons

Is a bit stronger than Woolies beans but has always been consistent - been my go-to for a few years now.

I only do decaf unfortunately. I did try Mastertons decaf - couldn't find it anywhere in East London but got some in Hogsback. I quite liked it but my wife isn't a fan - it's a darker roast.

Ah ok - they ship -i'm Durban they PE so i normally get then to ship 3-4kg at a time to help cushion the extra cost

@Tun@ what did they charge for delivery last time? I know they were looking into using Pargo in future but I'm not sure if they ever got it set up. IIRC that was the primary reason I didn't order from PE direct. I think delivery was R120 before.

4kg was R120 shipping via DSV - i think it can be got cheaper shipping to PO but that R120 is door to door

Ive been trying this out this week from Cape Coffee (or direct if you wish) its pretty good. Has a slight peanut butter taste. I would say a mild roast.

Then our usual Decaf is from Royal in Edenvale. This is a dark roast but really full flavour.

I don't see on website anywhere

Is this in store only?

Looks like two kinds of decaf

Colombo in Durban North has 250g of decaf for R100. It's quite good.

I have been looking for decent decaf beans for a while now. I tried the Terbodore option from Spar but it was quite bland, no better than the instant decaf in my opinion.

Has anyone tried Antithesis from Truth in Cape Town? It looks like it could be decent.

I've been ordering Kayrin beans from Takealot for a few months now and I'm happy with it.

The beans are always fresh with a roast date printed on them of 1-3 weeks prior to the delivery date.

Yes, in this thread. They are good but I've settled on Woolies decaf. They're consistent. I had two bags of truth that were overly sour. I've had some nice ones too.
I also bought a bag from Truth (resurrection blend) 2 weeks ago and noticed it was really sour. I thought it was the milk but its definately the coffee. So wierd.

I have never had issues with their coffee before so probably a good idea to let them know it wasnt great. David the owner takes quality really seriously.

I actually wanted to mail them about brew methods so I'll do that. Thanks

Hi guys

For the last few months, I've been buying pre-ground coffee and using a french press. Its been good, but I've been wondering about buying a grinder and whole beans rather than pre-ground.

How much of a difference will this make? I'm not a huge coffee aficionado, just looking for a very decent cup.

Freshly ground beans have more flavinoids and oils that evaporate or oxidate over days in the ground variety.

It really does make a difference. Try get a burr grinder. Which works the same way that a Pepper grinder works. Basically the difference in this over a grinder with blades is the consistancy of the grind. In a burr the coffee beans will need to pass through the same "gap" in the grinder making all the grinds the same. The blades just randlamy chop leaving bigger and smaller chunks all over the place. This makes creating the same flavour coffee difficult from cup to cup. It really is worth the purchase though.

Hi I'm in a similar boat, starting to use my french press more often and would like some suggestions on a good burr coffee grinder rather than pre-ground.

Electric or manual would be fine by me. I'm not usually someone that goes for the most expensive option nor do I like to buy garbage that doesn't work properly or doesn't last very long. So I would like to get an idea of what a decent grinder should cost here in SA
