Fiancee is preggers

Opportunities change, you become more focus driven and determined to make a success of yourself for you babys sake.

You are right on the button! I am feeling that, i just hope i can do it!! It feels like someone has lit a cracker under my chair while at the same time yelling BOO in my ear. I know her folks have misgivings as to whether I can provide for their daughter already. Now with a baby coming, her poor mother must be having heart palpitations.

So are you already on the lookout for a new job with better prospects?

You can avoid Pampers with very little effort, save the expense and do a lot for the environment.
We raised three kids with 3 doz towel nappies and Johnson nappy liners.
Plus Fison paste, a truly magic muti.
After drying on the line the nappies had to be washed because of a nasty little bug called putzi fly but that won't affect you.
When our kids outgrew the nappies we gave them to her sister (the nappies that is) although she ruined them with a tumble dryer.

Shew, everyone seems to have different opinions when it comes to Nappies. My fiancee however seems to share your line of thinking when it comes to towel nappies.

I just wonder who will be doing all the washing and rinsing of those towel nappies? Have you seen and smelled a poo nappy? Good luck.

From my experience that is a very watered down "shopping list":

Don't forget the initial setup costs with a pram, kot, bottles, dummies, steamer, humidifier, clothing, blankets, towels...the list is endless. If your medical does not cover everything, their are some serious gynea bills on it's way as well with all the scans and checkups. The birth cost quite a bit as well.

The sums for the basic costs do make sense, but does not allow for all those pediatric visits during the first 6 mnths at usually R650 a visit. If the kid is sick, your rarely get away under a R1000 for doc and medication.

Then also add wet wipes, baby oil, baby powder, baby shampoo and soap and Bio-Oil and Bepanthen ( R185 for 200 ml tube).
This list is also endless.
So budget at least R4000 per month AND budget for an increase in Med Aid. Also bear in mind that UIF does not pay much when wife is on mat. leave.

We planned and saved and still kakked.

She is a teacher, so can only go with Gems for medical aid. They are apparently very good. We are going to speak with them this week with regards to what they will cover.

Washing and drying towel nappies? After the 1st poo diaper, you will have a change of heart. I would rather bankrupt myself buying Pampers.

steamer - what? why?
humidifier - what? why?
clothing - inherent some from previous baby owners
blankets - use normal ones you have already (why baby specific?)
towels - use normal ones you have already (why baby specific?)
wet wipes - remember that washcloth we spoke about
baby oil - okay fine get 1 its not a car you dont fill it with oil
baby powder - well maybe if you cant keep the thing dry
baby shampoo - use normal person shampoo
soap - use normal person soap

It wont die I promise

:( I really have a weak stomach. My buddy has inherited a 2 year old with his new relationship, and he says you will NEVER forget the smell. It burrows into your nasal cavities for life. lol

Towel nappies are so year 2000 and only recommended if you really cant afford disposables.
Their only downside is the impact to the environment.
Just remember those towel nappies have to be washed which cost water, electricity and most importantly time.

If given the choice I would sacrifice my R560 I would spend on say entertainment for pampers. They hygienic, only cost under R2 each and are convenient.
If you cant afford it then its another story, but do you and your baby a favour and go disposable. The baby and you will be so much happier for it.

"It" ..."the thing" ??

You are obviously trolling and have no clue...OR you are the worst parent ever.

Normal shampoo and soap on a new born baby. Get ready for lots of skin allergy.

Vegeta has a point.People get so carried away with the first child that they spend exhorbitant amounts on baby stuff that they dont need and then complain about the costs of having a child.

Our parents didnt use half of the schit available toaday and look how we all turned out. :erm:

Don't bother...these are troll posts. This "person" has never had a child.
This!
But when I have one I'll try not to buy the world as the baby doesn't need it. I'm not trolling what I'm trying to show and I am exaggerating is how people go over the top and buy R6000 baby survalance systems, ferrari car seats and prams and other crazy things like that!

Your fiancée is a sensible lady. Listen to her.
Just send her to me if you think personal tuition is needed. I can offer very reasonable rates/terms.

Often. It's easy to manage and I had (still have) a weak stomach.
Drop the nappy liner with the poo into the bog, hold nappy under a tap to remove any excess (helped with a nail brush if necessary) and dump in bucket of sterinappy until you have enough for full washing machine load.

Just as I thought...you have no idea what you are talking about. People all think they know what it's like to have a baby and talk big and talk about how they will do it "their way". And I just laugh...I have seen people exactly like you...friends of mine...have the same attitude about babies. And did they have a shock.

I can actually take each one of your "points" and counter it easily, but why bother?
