Anyone know how things are progressing? I'm sure I've seen trenches being dug in the area...

?

Seen as well but this is mainly for cell towers and maybe routes for the future use.

Would love if we got fibre round here seeing as Kleinbosch, Welgelegen and Plattekloof have fibre.

I had word with Telkom techs in area and last time they said areas further away (Kleinbosch and Plattekloof) from the Telkom exchange in Bothasig will get fibre first.

There was a Telkom Fibre stand at Edgemead Shopping Centre on Saturday morning (didn't have time to speak to them) so maybe things are happening in the area.

Sadly that was for their LTE/Mobile stuff, not fibre. I got excited when I saw it followed by rapid onset of depression when I read the banners carefully.

There is digging happening in Wimbledon Way and Vondel Road. Not sure if it's fibre related or electricity related. Will ask next time I pass.

EDIT: Looking at the Dark Fibre Africa map they have fibre running along Edgemead Drive. Maybe they are going to extend down Wimbledon Way.

Vox have mentioned they are taking orders for Edgemead. Said it will take about 6 weeks to install on Vumatel. Haven't seen any Vumatel digging as yet though.

That's quite hopeful

Was wondering when this was going to pop up :crylaugh:

This is a private MetroEthernet circuit for Opticnetworks, it's a feed cable to supply a POP which we are building in Bothasig (Harmans Road).

Initial services will be deployed via Wireless, but once we do get some traction at CoCT in terms of trenching the idea is for FTTH initially for Bellevliet, Harmans, Steven, Versseriver, a small part of Steenhoven, as well as the Village Center.

Wireless should be up and available within a month or three (touch wood). Fiber will depend on CoCT, wayleaves, and a surprising amount of residents that takes the trenching way more serious than what it should be. No phun intended, but you won't believe how full of crap some people can be. We can not make use of Telkom's existing infrastructure (such as poles) and thus there is no alternative but to dig up the pavements, which is unfortunately going to be met with strong resistance from quite a number of properties by the look of things.

Watch your mailboxes, relevant communications should be forth coming in a couple of weeks time. Let us just get the services up and running first :D

From my side, sorry for the disruptions (especially those in Harmans and Bellevliet on Saturday). All major civil work has now been completed and we're just going to put some final touches on the installation on Monday morning and tidy up. Reinstatement where still outstanding, should also happen during the course of the day on Monday.

Nothing quite as pleasing as seeing the light at the end of a cable :crylaugh: We made the splicers drive all the way back from Saldanna today, Saturday, to splice and commission the service as they where a no show twice last week. Telkom (OpenServe) is at least done now and out of the picture, so things should start to move a lot quicker now.

Configurations and testing should commence in all earnest early next week. Approaching the end of a very, very long 9 months with this one.

Edgemead is almost there with regards to getting Vumatel to install:

I have heard they will install whether they get a 100% of signups or not.
