International looks good, but why do you have such high latency to MWEB CPT? Was the line idle when you tested (should have done this when we installed earlier to be honest)? IMHO to MWEB CPT should be sub 5ms. 34ms looks to me as if the traffic made a run to JHB and back.

Anyone else in the area, you're welcome to jump on board (wireless for now, fiber to follow) and letters should make it to the post boxes towards the end of next week if everything goes well in terms of the available time.

Hi Savage

I live in Amstel Street, is there any service here? I'm happy for you to dig up my lawn :)

Let me know

There should be. PM me your address (street number too) and email address. We can then do a basic link path analysis, and plot you on the systems, etc... If that's successful, I can send you the application forms to complete and we can more than likely be out there tomorrow or Saturday if you're available to do a detailed scan. Any other time too, if tomorrow or Saturday's no good for you, of course :)

And yes - we're now registered as a official company rep! :D

Is Vumatel any good, or more just a case of taking what we can get?

They seem to be one of the most expensive Fibre providers available from what I've seen.

Last I heard they received enough interest to start in Edgemead. The planning and way leave application process will take a bit of time so I don't think the actual trenching will start any time soon.

I am also not yet aware of Vuma in Bothasig. They haven't yet received enough interest as far as I am aware.

Are you planning on expanding to Edgemead? I'm looking to get away from ADSL, but Vuma's pricing is beyond my budget.

I honestly have no idea how this works, is Vumatel a once off installation fee? is there a monthly charge for Vumatel? or do you only pay for the ISP of your choice?

It's like a R1700 installation fee and a R999 activation fee. Over and above that their monthly costs are significantly higher than many other fibre providers, regardless of which ISP you choose.

Not with fiber (for now), we are focusing on one area at a time. Depending on where in Edgemead you are, we may be able to reach you with a wireless link however, and connect you to our fiber in Bothasig that way. The wireless hardly adds any latency to the link and it's almost unnoticeable if the signal is good enough.

If you want me to check and confirm for you, just PM me your address.

I can't see any other fees except for the installation fee on their website?

Because you only pay the installation fee (once). The R999 activation fee is charged to the ISP, not to you. After you've paid the R1700 installation fee, all other monthly costs are paid directly to the ISP you choose to use. The line and service is bundled so you only pay the ISP a single monthly fee.

Depending on the ISP, they will either cover all or some of the R999 activation fee or charge the customer the full amount. At least that's what I've seen while "shopping around".

Considering the current state of my internet, this is totally worth it, it should add value to the property as well.

Correct. For us, the guys signing up with Wireless now will get their Wireless links converted to fiber free of charge by us regardless of whether the carrier is us, Vuma, or someone else. This will include the R1700 and the R999 applicable to Vuma for example. We're effectively providing the service on a Wireless 'last-mile' currently, and then convert the last-mile to fiber once it is available to our customers.

We're actually close to starting to offer FTTH on OpenServe too, rather soon hopefully (and DSL for that matter). Just need to sort out some issues on the IPC front...

Considering the current state of my internet, this is totally worth it, it should add value to the property as well.

Fully agree...

Yeah Bothasig still need a lot of interest before Vumatel will take it further.

My brother is in Edgemead, and in the first group to be trenched. They starting in his road next week, confirmed.

It looks like there is some digging going on in Letchworth Drive near the High school in Edgemead, not sure if it's related to Vumatel.

It is , that is where they are going to have their area node or whatever its called. From there is goes out to smaller nodes in edgemead, I think they said they will have 3 or 4.

I am waiting rather impatiently. I see I am in area 1.1. Construction ETA - End of Sept and Fibre ready ETA October 2017 as per Vuma's website map.

I see there are so many providers. How would I know a provider like Cybersmart at R625 for 20/2MB uncapped compares well against the other much more expensive options out there?
