Fibre in Edgemead/Bothasig

I spoke to a young Gentleman and a young Lady that was measuring the outside of my house and wearing Vumatel tops. They said that Vumatel will be in Bothasig in the early part of next year.

Saw them Measuring and taking photos on other parts of Bothasig as well. When I saw them in Van Goens street I had to ask when will they start.

So be patient guys. Early next year is close.

Yup. I've said since the beginning that once they're done in Edgemead, they will come through Bothasig. I see them finishing in Edgemead towards Q1 of next year, and only then starting in Bothasig. Bothasig is a lot bigger than Edgemead in terms of the amount of properties, so I also expect them to finish with Bothasig only towards the end of next year - it's not going to happen over night.

That being said, Vumatel will still charge you R1,700 (odd) for the installation, plus any associated connection / activation fees from the ISPs side. We still do our wireless last-mile to fiber for only R1,500 installation, with free conversion to FTTH once it's available, doesn't matter if it's Vumatel or not :)

They also busy doing the road markings in Monte Vista - the meeting will be held tomorrow to give an overview to the residents.

Who do we contact at Vumatel when they haven't put your driveway back to original?

Do they have someone that verifies these things?

All systems go for my house. (Thomas Bowler, Edgemead) Box installed and ready to sign up.... Now for the hardest part...deciding which ISP. :/

I have Pm'd you with the details from the Edgemead FB page

Who you thinking of going with?

My thoughts are currently with Cool Ideas and Web Africa. Web Africa's special ends tomorrow. I haven't had any issues from them for a few years but I do know others have.

Does anyone have their fibre up and running in Edgemead?

Vumatel coming on Wednesday to run cable into the house.

Still unsure which company to go with....eish!

I am leaning towards Cool Ideas but still not 100% sure, I had a guy from Cell C Fibre come knock on my door trying to get me to sign up and I said I would think about it, he mentioned something about if I go for 100Mb, I should get 100/100 for better online gaming, I have no idea how legit that is.

I am leaning towards Cool Ideas or Web Africa. I have a data account with WA and have had good service from them but many people here haven't. They cover the Vumatel cost and connection fee but you have to be with them for a year.

Looks like i must have pee'd off the vumatel Gods....

I am the only house on the block that didn't have one of those little grey boxes run up to the house....

does anyone on the top side of edgemead actually have working fiber yet? Looks like all work is done and i was one of the initial pre-orders but no word from anyone.

do we just contact the ISP?

Sometimes one grey box is used for two houses or they run it from the black box in the ground.

What he said. If you still think there's a problem, email edgemead at vumatel.co.za.

After they had moved on from my street, I noticed every grey box had a cable coming out of it except mine.
I sent them a mail, they said they would look into it, and when I came home that evening, mine had a cable.

I am in Edgemead, just off Settlers Drive. My line was installed on 17th Dec. 4m Line running at between 1.8 & 2.12 D/Load and about .45 U/Load. Numerous calls to Vuma & Hellkom. Each says its the others problem. Vuma have tested the line many times and say it is 100%. If not solved by Wednesday 6th, I am going to Hellkom in Canal Walk and cancelling contract. Would rather pay the 999.00 Connection Fee, Router cost & Installation (1710) than put up with Hellkom $h1t. Only stayed with them to keep my email address. The installation is a once off so basically I should only lose the Connection fee and cost of router.
If I do change ISP, any recommendations who to pick. I've heard of this Cool Ideas, but their contact number is Jo'berg. Prefer a local number.
I spoke to one of the Vuma techs before my installation and asked him which is the best ISP "Sorry Sir we are not allowed to recommend service providers, but don't go for Hellkom!!"

Lol so you were advised by Vuma to no go with Telkom. You did anyways, and not are giving them a hard time about line speed.

If only 4mb why not just stay on ADSL if it was working for you?

I'm impatiently waiting for my installation to happen, hopefully this week, just the thought of having fast internet is gonna be a pretty good Christmas present.
