I am waiting rather impatiently. I see I am in area 1.1. Construction ETA - End of Sept and Fibre ready ETA October 2017 as per Vuma's website map.

I see there are so many providers. How would I know a provider like Cybersmart at R625 for 20/2MB uncapped compares well against the other much more expensive options out there?

Well you don't really.

I tend to choice providers on principle in conjunction with what they actually offer. If you have seen some of the comments from Cybersmart CEO recently, I wouldn't contribute R1 to his business. That goes for Afrihost as well.

I guess everyone has their personal preferences, but I think Vox is a pretty good ISP (I'm using their Fatpipe product atm). I used CISP on Octotel network when I was in Sea Point with no issues as well. So for me, either Vox or CISP

Lots of digging all over the Mead. Including my front lawn (in front of border wall). Whoop Whoop.

I am slightly worried what they are going to do to my driveway, I hope they leave it in the same state that they find it and not make a half arsed attempt to make good.

They have to make it good, otherwise there's very, very stiff penalties as well as possible revoking of the way leaves. Give it a bit of time, and have faith. I'm sure it will be back to good in no time at all.

What streets are they currently doing?

Eish. Too many to mention and remember. Lots of digging in Letchworth and many of it's side streets. And also in my street - Thomas Bowler. Pink nets everywhere.

Thanks, I just want to go and have a look and see how things are done. I'm in Goodwood and they will be coming to us soon.

Packetsky looks like the most affordable option for someone new to Fibre. No startup fee (other than the Vumetel R1710) and free fiber router. Month-to-month and no contract required. R699 p/m for the 20/2MB uncapped option. Seems almost too good to be true?

According to the meeting at the high school, it should take 6 months to cover the whole of Edgemead, they lighting the fibre up in stages.

They are digging in my road at the moment, near the shops.

Going for VOX 50Meg uncapped

It's great to read all the enthusiasm, but if anyone has had any dealings with Openserve like I've had to, be sure to be strong with ensuring your driveways and front areas are properly trenched and positions agreed. My driveway is not even a month closed up and the tar is busy breaking up, and grass growning through, as well as my front wall moving towards the trenching. PS, the fiber installation passed my place.

Out of respect for your privacy, I'd refrain from posting pictures. I've been there, on-site, the whole time, and I can categorically state:

1) Your wall was an issue before they even began to trench. In fact, you where dead set against the trenching, as a way to "get out" of having to claim from your insurance to fix your wall. They didn't cause your wall to move, your wall was moving LONG before they trenched. It is also more than likely due to the wall moving, that the tar is cracking (and I suspect this is in a small corner adjacent to your wall only, that may have a small crack). Not due to their bad workmanship as you are making it out to be (I'd be more than happy to take another walk there, and get some new photos too if I have to);
2) Not only was the tar re-instated (correctly) where they trenched, they lifted and retared your ENTIRE driveway, way more than what they where required to do - and frankly, they did a damn good job of it. Not only at your drive way, but also the other two that they had to trench;
3) In terms of your wall - just for the record... Electrical cable (twin and earth, as you used for your lights in your wall), is legally required to be inside CONDUITS in the ground - completely. Not only the first 10cm of the cabling going underground, the entire cable. You are not allowed to bury twin and earth directly into the ground as you have done, and it is completely illegal. Secondly, such electrical cable must be on YOUR side of the wall (i.e. in your property) and not on the council's property (road reserve) where there has been trenched. If we hit a cable and got electrocuted, you would have been in serious, serious trouble, as you are responsible for it;

Please - we've been through this before when we wanted to trench. Don't make your wall having issues with it's construction our fault. Go talk to the builder, whom not only does not know how to do proper foundations for your wall (and we know, we dug it up), but apparently also has a complete disregard for electrical safety, and take it up with him. I do suggest however, that you get your electrical as well as building issues sorted out. I'd be happy to contact the building inspectors on your behalf to come and have a look at whether your wall's foundations is built in accordance to what has been approved on the building plans too (which I highly doubt from what I've seen when we where the trenching).

Just FYI - there's another cable (as well as duct more than likely) on it's way - two actually depending on how long into the future you want to look... Thankfully there's road reserve belonging to CoCT and you don't really have a say.
