Fibre in Morningside Durban

Seeing the story on Mybroadband about Vumatel, I had no idea who got what area, or how it was decided, but grateful that it was openserve that laid the fibre here.. Wow vumatel are expensive!!

more good news, our body corporate and building supervisor have signed the forms :D and have sent it to Openserve reps. A company called Biz Afrika is laying the fibre. They are on Stamford hill. so process has been started. eagerly waiting. Building supervisor will provide us updates.

Ah man I'm happy for you, hopefully they make their merry way further up the hill too

It looks like someone made their merry way up the hill and it looks like Metrofibre, they dig up the sidewalk yesterday. Our BC chairman isn't happy about it, he reckons they're unlicensed chancers but he's a tool and sees the negative in everything. Hopefukly it goes live soon and they sort the whole block out with it

Wholeeeeeeeee block ;)

Well the crew that dug up Berea Park road looked like chancers, the guys that assembled the man holes, it was a comedy, they left all the plastic parts by the tennis court and the oldest, least paid worker walked each part up and down the road... Yeah not the professionals I was expecting, but in the end, something happens and fibre is coming!!!

Hey guys, more good news, they started digging the trenches on cypress avenue and carnegie place. Roads are next to Sutton crescent. Good to see progress finally come to the area. Will update this thread as things progress. I believe Sutton Crescent should be next.

That is great news, I do however have a question..I have noticed there is a lot of fibre looking construction around the Glenwood area, what I don't see are the tufts of plastic conduit like we have here in Berea Park Road outside each house..I would love to know how they are going to get the fibre from the street to the table in your house that has the ONT+wireless router...

There's quite a lot going on in the Morningside/Windermere area at the moment. The trenches have been dug along the whole length of Lambert Road and presumably others too.
My Body Corporate received and filled out an "Acknowledgement of Receipt" to grant Openserve access to fibre the complex about 3 weeks back, however this work seems to be done by Metrofibre. Does anyone happen to know what's going on there? Given the pricing and service I'd prefer to have Openserve as my fibre provider, but I guess maybe I should just be happy to get fibre, even if Metrofibre packages on ISPs are like 50% more expensive.

Yeah i also see its Metrofibre, their packages are crazy expensive compared to Openserve but its better then having DSL. Lets wait and see the outcome. Hopefully prices drop soon..

When will Metrofibre go live? I've been up in Tanzania for the past month and really want them to come and install in block of flats! I got an email from Afrihost with my preorder and the price has dropped by R30 and the speed doubled

Guys. I’m a trustee on the body corporate of my building and we got a unanimous resolution to permit Openserve in the complex. Openserve is trenching in the area but we got no forms to sign. Does anyone know how I may get in touch with Openserve to get them to bring Fibre into the complex?

Hey, so Openserve have stopped rolling out in my area(Windermere), we already signed their forms but told us they stopped rolling out for a while in the area and i think its because Metrofibre have started in the area before them. I feel your pain :(, we just have to wait now i guess. They are yet to trench on Sutton crescent. So it looks to be long from now.

Just an update. Saw some contractors with a van with Openserve logos on it working on Lambert Road today. After asking them and calling the Openserve rep, it indeed looks like they have restarted work in this area.
Holding thumbs we may be lucky enough to get to choose between Openserve and Metrofibre in the future but who knows

Sounds like good news, I desperately need fibre

small update from me and great news, they started digging/ trenching on Sutton crescent and right next to our driveway. Good to see progress in the area... :)

Update from my side too, Wallace Road has been trenched and recovered, saw some gents from Biz Afrika doing some work although I'm not sure what. Also noticed some guys splicing fibre or whatever its called. So there is progress happening. Nobody has approached my block yet to install fibre throughout but I'm sure it will happen in time

Hi Guys,

Openserve is laying cables outside my building on Lilian Ngoyi Road. Any idea on who I can contact to get installation for my building?

Thanks
