Fibre: Secunda Community

Hey guys, don't be despondent.. things are happening behind the scenes, we promise!

Icasa has come to the party with the paperwork, and all our planning is done. The digging / trenching machinery is on its way, and we are in the process of hiring teams of workers to start ripping the town to shreds (in a good way, lol). Our carrier link has been organized to the centre of town, so basically almost everything is set. Keep an eye out for us soon, you never know where you might spot a 123NET contractor ;)

Hang in there! :p

I'm close to the center of town.. do mine first wink wink XD

Well it does make me a bit more excited to see a reply. It is tough not to get discouraged especially when there is no news and you have to struggle with uselesskom. Some nights I cant even open a website since the connection just times out. So do understand that it is difficult to stay positive.

If you are near our carrier link then it is highly likely that you'll be one of the first connected, but don't quote me on that ;)

Hi, sorry this does not directly have to do with secunda, but if you had enough interest in other areas, would you hire more people to roll out in order to launch quicker?

We hire contractors as needed for trenching etc, and always do our best to roll out as quickly as possible once an area has successfully qualified for a rollout :)

You can use their dashboard to increase your speed to 20mbps once the service is active mate. The monthly price will increase accordingly

We do :D

If you don't want the Gigabit-10 or Gigabit-100 package, you can choose our Gigabit MySpeed package, which lets you tailor-make the package to suit your speed requirements and budget. As you know, all local traffic runs at 1 gigabit, but for international you could have 20mbps down and 20mbps up, or save some money and have say, 20mbps down and 5mbps up.

https://123net.co.za/en/front/areas/plans Is the only link to packages I can find, do you have a link to where one could set up custom packages?

The problem started a few years back after lighting damage on the lines. All telkom said they are in process to replace the damaged lines

The IPTV... will that come at a later stage? Also would love to see the price on a 25mb line from you guys? Since the price on the 10mb is R899 and the 100mb is R1999 I would take a whild guess it will be about R1149? Yea the website is a bit old... it doesnt even show secunda under where the fibre is yet ;). Will be waiting for your contractors. Hopefully before end of July (wink wink).

Our IPTV service is still in the works (lots of licencing to arrange!) but you can keep checking the site and MyBB for updates.

I can't give you an exact price on a 25mb line at the moment, but you are probably on the right track. Remember, you could also request a higher or lower contention ratio, or a different upload speed to adjust the price to fit your budget :D
