Need advice with fibre provider in Camps Bay.
Only OpenServe Fibre available here at present.

I recently moved over to unlimited (capped not available) Fibre, 20Mb OpenServe line through Afrihost.
In the month I've had it, I've had speeds (usually at night) of below 1Mb, thus constant buffering.
Then the fibre-box died - took Afrihost/Telkom a week to replace it.
Again, do a test with techies in the house and it sits at 19Mb. Try watch Netflix at 8pm, and immediately start swearing.

Am I being throttled? On fibre!?!?

Should I go back to copper? A bit of the odd buffer, but generally far more stable speeds, and half the price.

Or should I change my provider?

Afrihost seems to have different tiers on their fibre products. I'm not sure what the shaping policy is around each one. I'd rather just move to an ISP that doesn't shape...

Telkom fibre is the same as adsl in terms of IPC and all that bull****

Why not get a small capped account and then switch to see if it makes a difference?

Try another provider if you want to be sure. I got shaped constantly using Afrihost capped accounts.

I have the EXACT same Fiber Speed, With Openserve AND Afrihost as a ISP and I have priority uncapped, I don't think I have ever struggled one bit with the shaping.

The home fiber is where they throttle you real hard @ like 300GB I think, so if you are on home fiber, you shot yourself in the foot there as it is all in the T's And C's when you apply.

The Priority fiber never gives issues, worth the upgrade :)

Afrihost Home Throttle and Shaping Details:

1Mbps = 20GB
2Mbps = 40GB
4-5Mbps = 80GB
8Mbps = 100GB
10Mbps = 120GB
20-25Mbps = 200GB
40-50Mbps = 250GB
100Mbps = 300GB
1000Mbps = 1000GB

This isn't throttling, this is congestion. Throttling would manifest continuously(probably towards the end of the month when you've hit your cap), speed drops at the same time everyday is congestion/backhaul issues.
