Telkom is finally installing Fibre from my street pole to the UMC box, will this mean I can finally get 10 megs instead of 4?

I thought you were actually getting fibre installed to your house?

Depends on your distance from the DSLAM

Damn nice. I am sure you will get a comprehensive answer shortly :D.

Your stats are good, you thinking of getting more speed? 10/20Mbps?

Would like to know exactly what improvements you are going to get :). Where is the answers when you need them  from our resident knowledgeable posters. :p

Would love to know how one goes about getting 10 meg as that is what I am paying for right now.

Checked the fibre coverage map and says we can get up to 100 meg lines here.

Yay! Your area has been identified for Fibre to the Home (FTTH up to 100 Mbps) roll-out.
Register your interest for this exciting new Fibre to the Home (FTTH up to 100 Mbps) offering allowing you to experience the power of Super-Fast Broadband.

Go for it! Don't stick with ADSL.

Do what you already know, pop TelkomZA a message here [Charl filler :p] and ask to do a line test. I suggest letting him know what time and then you monitor that time. When i was pushed up to 12Mbps [2 weeks ago,now 11Mbps] , it happened around 2-3am and luckily i watch those lights like a hawk when am at the PC :p. It is just nice to know stats during that time.

While you have all that getting sorted, start getting your Fibre application done and then do the crossover once you are all Fibre'd up. Please open a thread in the Fibre section with all your big or small frustrations during these processes :).

Good Luck :D

Where did you apply for fibre? Also who do I use for FTTH.

The max I could get at the moment from TelkomZA was 5 megs so my new stats is this.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5120 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 5.5 db 5.5 db
Noise Margin 18.2 db 27.0 db

for such low attenuation and connection speed/sync rate, that noise margin seems rather low. that attenuation is very low, you should be able to get 40Mb sync easy if your noise margin can be sorted. are you using a filter, and do you hear any unusual noises on the line when listening to the line quality using a normal POTS phone?

yes it is, but probably cause it needs a new pots filter after all the storms we had recently, but can't find a pots filter for two phone lines ports anymore.

With those stats I find it very hard to believe the most you are able to obtain is 5mbps.

Are you sure you are paying for a 10mbps line?

Yes I am TelkomZA says that is all I can get right now until they upgrade the mini dslam down the road.

Surely if I can get 5 megs I should get at least 8 megs, I also use g.dmt right now as I can't get adsl 2+.

Good Day Ichigo

You are connected to a mini DSLAM and the maximum attainable rate is 5Mbps*
We can only hope that the area will be upgraded and a remote MSAN can be installed.
