So getting connected to Fibrehoods soon. They've currently placed a Zhone GPON 2424 ONT device in my house. Apparently the service provider brings their own modem to connect to this, further. This device seems well capable of functioning as a modem. Does anyone have an idea, firstly, how to log in (it's connected to fibre network and has no DHCP service - hard to find IP), and further has anyone used this as a modem? Thanks!!

Once it connects to the network you can't access it. I think the auto-provision settings they've set disable the web interface.
It did strike me as pretty strange that they aren't allowing the ISPs to use it as a router but I suppose it's easier if it's just invisible in the whole thing - like a DSL modem. :)

Ahhhhhh. Thank you. Yes it's quite odd indeed. Nested modems :)

So I have the same issue now, would like to connect with the Zhone modem, same as above, but cannot access the web interface.

Explanations above make sense, but it seems stupid, will have three nested modems / routers.

eg Fibrehoods / Vox / Mine.

I decided to go with Vox as AH do not offer a service with Fibrehoods.

Anyone know anything about the modem that Vox uses ? I have an Asus RT-N66U.

Curiosity killed the cat.

you can login into setting a manual IP in your machine 192.168.1.xx/24 and then pointing your browser to 192.168.1.1. The username should be admin or zhone. admin/admin admin/zhone zhone/admin zhone/zhone something like that. If 192.168.1.x doesn't work, try 192.168.0.x

There is nothing special about the unit anyway. Rather leave it alone.
