Can you use the HDMI for video only and then use the other ps3 connector to av for audio? if so sweeeeeeeeet.

Thats another thing the xbox360 couldn't do.

Ok so hdmi carries both signals, now i can split it you say?

So for instance i connect my dstv via the yellow cable and plug these 2 white and red cables into my sound box? is that what you talkin about solidus?

yeah. I'm not sure if you can split the audio and video hdmi on the ps3 you definitely cannot on the xbox360.

I reckon its time you move past those cheap sahara 2.1's though and get something decent with hdmi/optical, will solve your troubles.
 
That will be fine if your Projector has Component connectors.
 
you can split the audio/video from your ps3.

in your video set-up on the ps3, select HDMI and it will ask you whether you want it set up on Auto or Custom. Choose Custom > then select your display properties (i.e. 720p, 1080i, 1080p) and then it should take you to the audio set-up, where you will be asked to select either HDMI or component/SCART output. select component and use your standard component RED and WHITE cables to your audio device (eg 2.1 HI-FI etc).

EDIT: The component AV cables i'm referring to above are your standard PS2/PS3 AV cable. The one that comes packaged with your console. Set-up the HDMI for video and the standard supplied component AV cables for sound to your hi-fi etc.

Awesome thanks for that. Wish my old Xbox360 could do that would have saved me a lot of money.
 
Yes, you can use HDMI for video only, and then use the provided AV cable for audio only (this will give you stereo in 2 RCA connections).
 
a bit off the FIFA 10 topic, but there's a spot in durbs selling SONY HDMI cables for R150. would it make any difference as I currently have a cheapy set! :D hehe...

You'll find people who tell you how much of a big difference "better" cables make. In reality, unless you have some super-human senses, you won't see a difference.

Unless of course the build quality of the cable is such that the connections aren't properly made.

Been using my R81 job from House and Home for ages with no issues. And it's nice because it's very stiff and thick; not gonna break easily.
 
yeah, i'm thinking i'll hold off for a while until i need to purchase another set for the HDMI DVD player i'm planning on getting soon. will wait to see if there's a difference as well!

I did buy a hdmi, bloody 400 bucks haha. So yea hope it goes well.
 
Ok it asks me if i want hdmi to do video and audio i say no and the screen goes blank and nothing happens?

Should i select yes and then setup the sound at a later stage?
 
Is anyone played online with a mate on FIFA before? Struggling to connect to his invite.... On PS3 btw..

Which model did you get? The 120GB?

yeah its probably looking for an input via the other connectors now.
 
Yea i told it yes and set it up in the settings, everything working now. Busy doing the network to playstation setup.

Ya i got the slim 120gb model, very cool this now i just need to figure out the media center aspect as well :D

Can it play all my downloaded movies and series, generally avi's?

yup you can - i'd suggest running a cable if its hi def stuff. I have a 1tb of media streaming of my pc's hdd to the PS3 slim.
