Fifa admit plan B for 2010

Slightly . The WC is far larger. Secondly the country has degraded significantly since the last event

What has gotten worse since the last World Cup we hosted? I can only think of infrastructure enhancements since then. And the crime rate has remained stable - k@k, but stable.

Who said anything about 'wanting' it to fail

The usual suspects in CA. "Tighten your belts, tighten your belts, fail, fail, fail"

because the crime has gotten worse and after the xeno attacks things do look a bit shaky :(

See above.

Do you think it will actually wake them up?

A burglar that scales Mbeki's R9m (taxpayers' monay) wall around his mansion, will hardly wake him up.

(In which case, he'll just have the wall broken down and a higher better one built by the next family-tender)

Just let us host the damn thing already and then we can see what is what :)

There's a responsibility when hosting an event like this and you can't just say 'see how it goes' IMO.

I'm of the opinion that you sort your store out first then reap the rewards rather than receive something in the hope of it stimulating an improvement.

We hosted successful rugby and cricket world cups. Why couldnt we successfully host a football world cup? Slightly larger scale but the concepts have been tried and successfully tested. I reckon we will host a very successful event, but speculating isnt going to get us very far...

"Slightly"?

If the RWC was only slightly smaller scale, then why didn't we have to upgrade & build extra stadia & infrastructure for the RWC?

And would you refer to a competition (SWC) that has 50% more public attendance than the RWC, you would call that only "slightly" larger scale?
(refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_attendance_figures)

In the above two FACTS are the crux of the issues SA has to deal with in order to make the event successful. If not, FAIL.

.....no need for a world cup, rsa has already beaten the foreigners

If they are saying that they have a plan B then there is one thing for sure we are not going to have it and what a waste of money that s going to be

Good lord.
"Slightly"...... Words fail me.

Jupiter is only slightly larger than Pluto.

Got to agree, we successfully hosted the rugby world cup in 95 as well as the 2003 cricket world cup and more recently but hardly significant the pro 20/20 world cup. All tournaments went off without a hitch and it would appear that our infrastructure was stretched to only ever 80% of its capacity (but I'm speculating with that figure). Could be more or less.

Coupled with this all the improvements/upgrades that are being made for 2010 we should more than capable of hosting the tournament and successfully!!!

Of course should the country be in the state of a full blown civil war then this event aint going to happen. But honestly we are not in that position, not in 94 and not now and are unlightly to be in the future despite what the doom mongers believe..

I think they should just go to plan B. Save us all a lot of embaressment.

I am sure some of you guys will be extremely happy if in fact FIFA decides to take away from South Africa the right to host the 2010 world cup.

I don't think anybody here wants the SWC to fail, and looking at the realities of crime, corruption and mismanagement does not mean "we" ourselves are negative. We would love to see the foreign investment, spending and infrastructure flow in for years to come... at least I do.

When I say FIFA should go to plan B, it has everything to do with embarrassing the ANC government and causing THEM to fail! :) Whole different ball game! ;)

Imho, the SWC WILL fail, and more importantly...MUST fail.

Wait, wait, wait...settle down...

Anyone with an inkling has been following the SADC region's rapidly growing list of massive problems recently...it's getting us noticed. This is a very good thing...

ZA is the gateway to Africa, despite what many think, Africa is a big provider to the Western world...resources abound!

The world is waking up to the issues here and if [when] the SWC fails in dismal fashion [foreigners are already wary], ZA will be forced to initiate big change...this is my view and prediction.

I'm pinning my hopes on a failure spurring change.

Neeext?

Well, according to your link, the FIFA world cup has more games. If you go by a per game basis, the FIFA world cup only attracts 12% more people. So, on a per game basis, I don't see why we can't pull it off.
