Fifa admit plan B for 2010

Short of Platinum, Zim's of little strategic use to the rest of the world...

Us, on the other hand, are of a lot more value in every way...resources, African connections, ocean-going stopover, etc. etc. etc.

The world can not afford to lose ZA to a bunch of yobs.

We will succeed. It depends on how you measure that success and I am sure we will not all agree on how to measure. It has to be a success for the visitors as well as the locals. We will see more money(foreign) in the economy, improved property prices etc. As individuals we can make the difference. Be friendly and hospitipal to visitors, yes I know some of you will cite the criminals attitude etc, but that is the governments responsibility. If we do our bit it will make it more likely the tournament will succeed. If we all have a negative attitude and hope the tournament fails, it will. However, the vast majority of people I know want to do whatever it takes to make it a success. We need to be proud South Africans again.

I have no doubt it will succeed. You know what I have a problem with. All this money will go straight into the pockets of the corrupt. I am sorry but I cannot be proudly a member of a country that steals from its own.

u know i aint gonna mention names but theres are alot of hypocrites in this country and some of them are on this forum even...Always seeing the bad in everything, WORLD CUP COMING TO SOUTH AFRICA IS GOOOOOOOOOD

if we didnt bid to get the world cup then ppl say "how the hell could we not bid for it in 2010 wen we almost got it in 2006, our country is f'd up" if we bid for 2010 and we didnt get it then its "obviously we wont get it,why did we bother bidding, look at our country, its f'd up" and now that we GOT 2010 we are saying "i dont see why they never went to plan B long time ago, we can never host it, our country is f'd up"

look at euro semi final germany n turkey, the power went out while the match was playing and a big chunk of the match wasnt seen, just goes to show that europe aint all that hey, we hosted cricket n rugby world cups successfully (yes i know the soccer world cup is bigger), germany were under speculation in 2006 as well and only finished stadiums in 2006 like a month or so before the world cup n pulled it off brilliantly

we the FIRST african country to host the soccer world cup so how can hosting this not be a step in the right direction, SA is investing alot of money into this and insteading of applauding this we are saying "how cn we spend on this wen theres poverty n crime n bla bla bla" im not saying these arent highly important issues but its nt like SA is taking money away from the "poverty n crime" budget n putting it into the "world cup 2010" account, world cup brings so many prospects for the future, future foreign investors, more events,BETTER TELECOMS(personal favourite) etc ,

i really think that if we can pull 2010 off then we will definitely grow as a country and hopefully truly put us on the world map as a country to be respected

i know our country has major issues (especially with leadership) but i am all for this and believe its definnitely a step in the righ direction so INSTEAD OF KICKING OUR COUNTRY DOWN LETS RATHER STAND UP, BE PROUD, AND SUPPORT THE VENTURE THAT IS 2010!

I used to be a card-carrying member of the 'ZA rocks! Promote it!' clan...now I'm running for President of 'ZA's a Sh*thole. Nuke it!' club. :)

I couldn't have said it better myself. Negative people will always find something negative to say about this country, to be honest, those types of people make me more sick than crimimals sometimes.

What criminals? Stop being so negative! :D

After Euro 2008, the next biggest excitement is 2010 @ ZA . Really can't wait!

I am not in any camp. Sometimes I am happy and proud of SA, at other times I am disappointed and sad (like last week, when the local hotshots in Blue Shirts turned into gangsters and Wild West thugs). I want the World Cup to be a success and contribute to the benefit of all South Africans. The last two times we won the RWC I was ecstatic and VERY proud of this nation. But a lot has happened since then and seems to be sliding worse and worse. It is one thing vigorously wave your flag in the air while muttering to yourself "everything is going just great, nothing's wrong, everything's going to be just fine" over and over. But the rest of us realists stand there and look at what is happening with mouths agape... kinda like this little guy ->

Where do you think the Zimbabweans were 15/20 years ago when the country was the breadbasket of Sub-Saharan Africa, their exchange rate was stronger than the US dollar in the early 1980s and their education system was one of the best in Africa? Do you think they foresaw what was going to happen? Come on, just because people here express reservations about what is happening does not make them anti-patriotic, or kill-joys, or overly negative. They think you are overly-optimistic, but so what? If things turn out for the good, Yay and Hallelujah and Great Stuff. But things certainly do not appear to be getting any better. That is just our opinion!

There's a responsibility when hosting an event like this and you can't just say 'see how it goes' IMO.

I'm of the opinion that you sort your store out first then reap the rewards rather than receive something in the hope of it stimulating an improvement.

Of course there is a resposibility - the same one that any country has whenever it hosts an event like this.

Are you serious? Think about that for a moment, do you even realise what you're saying, and how absurd that is?

Agreed, that's one of the dumbest posts I've seen in a while.

Another ANC "success story" as they would like to spin it, IN THE FACE of the evil Western people who believed in them. So brave is the ANC leaders to stand up to the West and screw their soccer up. What heroes do we not have leading us in to the dark ages where we all came from.
